Regional instability - Busy days for the military
Grovne. Over the last years this region has suffered from numerous armed conflicts. Most recently, the Sporaltryuan war tore the region apart and sparked several catastrophic civil wars. Sedunn was fortunate to stay out of the war, and chose to not participate in the related civil wars. However, the country has, together with Karnetvor and Darkstrait engaged in what is now known as the Second Transsunerian Civil War, aiming to bring stability and peace to the collapsed nation. Sedunnic military has also participated in several unsuccessful war-deterring efforts, and the country has been partially mobilized on numerous occasions since tensions arose in the sea between the northeastern and southeastern continents (sometimes referred to as the Vannin Sea) a little more than a year ago.
Sedunn spends a significantly larger proportion of its GDP on defence compared to most nations. Being a smaller defensive nation, mostly reling on conscription and having limited offensive long-range capabilities (it has no aircraft carriers for example) may raise questions on why it has such an expensive military. The answer is mainly readiness; the standing forces (voluntary) consists of about 350,000 men and women and has a readiness of 24 hours at most.
Its numbers, and of course cost, has been a matter of debate over the years. Most political parties agree on the current organization, but one opposes it. Allvuvod, the Greens, wants to see the expanses cut in half, claiming the current organization to be too numerous. Recent polls have however shown that 72% want to keep it as it is, 8% want an increase while only 8% think military spending should be reduced. A change is therefore not likely to happen in many years.
Currently one flotilla and two or three infantry battalions are engaged in Transsuneria and more are expected to join the fight against rebellion leader Soormann. It is also speculated that Sedunn will intervene in the Darkstrait civil war.
Even though the country currently is not at any stage of general mobilization, the largest unplanned military exercise in decades is taking place mainly east of Ullenst. The exercise, called Guttuld javvril - Operation Grass, involves about 100,000 soldiers, both from the standing forces and those in the final stages of their conscription.
- I recieved the order 36 hours ago, says general Savberl, responsible for the exercise. It is quite a challenge to get all this together, but if we do not manage it now, how could we ever be expected to mobilize properly during a war? The fact that everything has proceeded according to plan is a testimony of all of my colleagues' hard work, all the way down from the generals to the mortar crews.
This has, as it often does, attracted foreign military attaches and observers. The real reason for this military exercise, although not officially, is likely to send a signal to the region, in these times of political instability.

Ryccians seek refuge
Aeffer. The devastating civil war in Ryccia has led to hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing capitalist militia. About 50,000 refugees are estimated to arrive in Sedunn.
- We are not entirely ready to handle this, says Ulimi Yttres, head of Aeffer County, we will do anything we can give them shelter, we ask them to be patient. We estimate the majority will return to Ryccia when the situation there has stabilized, and will help the rest to settle in and for example learn our language.
The Ryccians arriving in Sedunn have in most cases been able to keep their families together, and most of them are physically well. Government officials are in continous contact with Ryccian counterparts to, for example, manage paper transfers.
Immigration to (and from) Sedunn has always been limited. This fact, by itself, may be the reason for the low numbers of people seeking refuge there. This could, however, change in the future. If stability does not improve in the region, more people might have to flee their homes.
That might just be the case in Transsuneria. Elective King Vimmru II elaborates:
- Transsuneria is devastated from years of civil war and terror. The people there have endured two wars and a famine. We and our allies expect to be able to stabilize the country, and we will send humanitarian aid too the civilians as soon as possible. We [the government] belive that if we are successful in bringing peace there, people might not have to leave their homes.

Visit for a blast
It is dark , it's crowded, and it smells of wet rock and gun powder. I have come to visit what's called DFB 14, a coastal artillery and anti-air fort south east of Flered. Carved in the southernmost slopes of Limmvasd Mountain Ridge half a century ago, the fort has seen a lot of crews come and go. Despite this, most about DFB 14 is classified.
Getting permission to even get near the installation was a long process. It took four months to get a clearance, and every step I take is closely monitored by a guard, a second shadow. I am in the so called battery compartment, where the main gun is located. The gun, as I am told by one of the crew, is even older than I am!
The history of DFB 14, and the other coastal batteries in the area, is the story of meaner weapons rendering forts vulnerable, which in turn demands better protection, rendering the weapons useless.
The coast has always been heavily fortified. The introduction of missiles with over-the-horizon capabilities and nuclear weapons in particular, had the military headquarters worried. The coastal batteries were either made mobile or given better protection. DFB 14, like the other DFB's, were constructed in the slopes of the mountain ridge. The military claim they are even safe from a nuclear blast.
- How many blasts we can survive is unknown, but had I known, I would not have told you. The battery commander turns down the volume of the his FM radio, playing some kind of rock, while answering my questions.
- The view here is great, we can see the entire Loenn Bay from here. I have still not got tired of it, even though my service soon is finished here.
Our conversation is suddenly interrupted by a short alarm, followed by an order: "Ready gun, ready gun!" The order is repeated by the gun crew.
- Ready gun!
- Attention, fire mission coming in. A woman, sitting in the shadows raises her hand.
- Load guided shell! The commander yells loudly and a man by the gun repeats his order.
A short mechanical cacophony from the cannon tells us that a grenade is loaded.
- Ready! The man by the cannon yells.
- Fire!
- Firing!
The last sentence was interrupted by a large shocking blast.
I am barely able to stand, but the crew seems totally unaffected.
The woman raises her hand once more.
- On target. Cease fire!
Today, shooting exercises are planned all day, and I will get a good look at what is going on. But after this display I am unsure I would really stand it. However, I am lucky. I am asked to follow my guard to a meeting with a colonel.
However, when I get to where we are supposed to meet, someone calls the guard on his radio. The colonel is apparently indisposed at the moment. Instead I settle for a cup of coffee in the underground cafeteria.
The guard joins me for the coffee. But he is short on answers to my questions, and it is hard to even hear them over the shooting taking place on the other sides of the walls.
One coffee is all I got time for. Exactly at 11 o'clock it is time for me to leave.
Next time we visit Vebarud, a Flered class corvette.

Coalition forces pulling out of Transsuneria
Grovne. Grovne. Today it was revealed that the coalition, consisting of Sedunn, Darkstrait and Karnetvor, is withdrawing ground forces from Transsuneria. Following a brief coalition victory over attacking Soormann Fighters and Purists in a previously secret military base on the coast, Soormann himself threatened to use gas on his own citizens.
This desperate act led to the coalition forces promptly leaving to guarantee that the gas would not be used in two of the most populated areas in Transsuneria, as stated by Soormann. No public statements by any of the involved governments have yet been released. This has risen many concerns, Vilue expert Gravvu Sklaitt comments:
- Pulling out now is very risky, it all seems like a big failure. A lot of people are worried about the situation. It is not likely they will give up, and the fact that our navy still is present there supports this. The government will have to comment on this no later than by tomorrow.
Currently no movement of military units of either Soormann's units or the Federationalists have been detected, and they seem evenly matched. It remains to be seen if Soormann will manage to also threaten his countrymen to yield to his demands.

Singers in every street
Lomaredd. The yearly event Livvdo tarann (Street Musicians) will finally come to Lomaredd next week and preparations are well under way.
The yearly musical festivities, where a large proportion of the most famous musical talents, and a few promising, take to the streets to entertain an entire city. Much of central Lomaredd will during the next weekend be dedicated to the musicians, offering a wide array of genres. This year, a total of 100 people are planned to perform. Since most of the shows are taking place in the streets, it is free to the public. This is mostly a very popular event, but it is not welcomed by everybody. This year a significant amount of signatures were collected to try to stop the event, but it was too late and still to few, according to county officials. It will as usual be broadcasted in NNN1.

SCO referendum announced
Grovne. Today, in a press conference, the parliament announced a referendum about a full membership in the SCO. This is a result from long parliamentary discussions and formal investigations. Now it is up to the people to decide.
The unstable situation in the region worries a lot of people, and the government is not an exception. Over the last year only, several wars have ravaged countries and serious crimes against humanity have been unveiled. The referendum will be non-binding, a consultative referendum, with multiple choices. The details are not yet clear. The choices will most likely be to either apply for a membership in the SCO, find other partners/allies, or remain non-aligned.
- Being alone in this world may no longer be a viable option, says King Vimmru II (H). We are getting more and more inter-linked, and globalization calls for a strong international voice. The SCO represents vital values that we share, it will have a positive impact on the region. If we do not join, we will risk to be left out on important regional decisions that will affect us anyway we like it or not. But of course such an important decision should directly involve the people, that is why the government has decided to call for this referendum.
The government, consisting of the Havfaipaksod (Traditional Party - H) and the Erynnulsapaksod (Social Democrats) are themselves in favor of a SCO membership. SCO also have supporters from two out of four of the parties in opposition. Party leader Kjenn of the Uksarave- gji trunnsgeo paksod (Environment and Nature Party, UT) opposes a membership and explains why.
- Our neutrality and non-alignment have served us well, just look at the recent Ryccian War. We were able to act quickly and freely and control over the RATSPT was surrendered to us without a single shot fired. UT is worried about the lack of actions taken by the SCO, other than talk. They may even have provoked the war. It is also notable that several members of the SCO hold membership status in other alliances. There are also members with nuclear arsenals.
Several leading experts have, on the other hand, concluded that the Ryccian war could not have been avoided, with our without the SCO. The referendum is planned to take place in September 13.

A Veteran's Tale
Next year it will be 65 years since Karnetvor attacked Sedunn. One of the people who were there in the beginning is Seffio Retrienn. I finally got a chance to meet this now 84 years old veteran.
Grovne. We agreed on meeting by the Innienn Pond, near the parliament. When I arrive, 30 minutes early, he's already sitting on a park bench, waiting for me.
"So, you had questions for me about the war?"
I'd better get started right the way, I thought to my self.
Part I - That Day Is Today
-You said when we spoke on the phone that this place is special to you. Why?
It was in 1951, two weeks after the Karnetvorian attack on the Essela Base and our declaration of war. We [the 5th Infantry Brigade] had just received our orders that we would be shipped out in 30 hours. We had to spend the last 24 hours making preparations, so I only got 6 hours to spare. I called my father telling him that it could take a while until we could get in touch again, then I bought an ice cream at the train station here in Grovne. I soon noticed how people started to focus on a distant noise. Me and other curious people followed the sound to the station exit. There it was obvious what made all the noise - a military parade, with tanks. Those things were still somewhat rare back then, at least in such a large concentration, so we followed the parade. It was headed towards the Grand Square, no surprise there. I had participated in numerous parades over the last year myself, but this was on a whole new scale. It must have been hundreds of tanks. Radio and and every significant newspaper were there, and a few international as well I think. Civilian me would have loved it, but military me thought: You will see enough of those the coming year, do something you wont be able to do then! So I decided to go to the Parliament Park and the Pond.
When I got here I realised how quite and calm it was. Normally there would have been hundreds of people hanging around. I just sat down by the water and my thoughts wandered off. I just sat there for four hours, thinking about everything and nothing. I took the time to really listen to the birds. I didn't recognise all of them, and I promised myself I would return to learn them all. Then I had to leave for the train to our base. It had been a precious few hours.
-The 7th Infantry Brigade, a reserve unit, was mobilised early. What did you do before the war came to Sedunn?
We were activated, as we say, when Tekarai was showing intentions of joining the war on Karnetvor's side. We did a lot of guarding, parades and month-long field exercises, things we were used to, but now with a renewed sense of, you know, gravity. We were often visited by the radio and some magazines. It was obvious they wanted to show off the strength of Sedunn to the world. When off duty, we often went to Grovne. Most of the boys in our platoon, including me, grew up on the country side, so we never got tired of just exploring the city. Imagine us 20 years old farm boys, it was chaos, in a good way.
- But one day you were about to be shipped out. How did you feel? What happened?
We all reacted in different ways. Some of us just, you know, wanted to be for themselves. Others were exalted. I was actually relieved, the waiting was finally over. Before boarding the ships, our brigade commander spoke to the whole brigade. It was a really good speech, I remember one thing he said in particular. "War is apparently fashionable. Our enemies prefer hideous clothes in blood red and gunpowder black, perfumes with a scent of tears and hatred, and hats made of wrecked cities dyed with fear! But we know fashion too! We will sell them a particularly exquisite piece of textile. A blank, white one. It will be expensive, it will come at very high price. But we will put it on a long stick for them, for free. Believe me, they will buy it! And use it!"
His words stayed with me through the entire war. They [the Karnetvorian-led coalition of Tekarai, Noctenos and Karnetvor] brought war and devastation upon us, but we would fight hard, not give up until their capitulation. Yes, white is a beautiful colour.
- What happened next?
We all boarded the ships. You know, at the beginning of the war we had very few transport ships, so they claimed civilian ferries to increase the capacity. My battalion boarded the Sravedo Junnd, a fairly new cruise ship. It was actually quite luxurious, but crowded, and all that polish didn't do any good when we started to get sea sick!
Halfway to our destination they finally revealed to us where we were headed. Josetown, the Siculites. It had to be that, or Aschenburg. After the battle when our navy had beaten and incapacitated its counterpart from Tekarai, the immediate threat of an invasion from the south was minimised. But the generals were still very concerned with the Karnetvorian-held territories [the Siculites and Ascheburg], from where they could very well have launched an invasion.
We did not know it then, but we were very lucky going to the Siculites.
- Yes. On September 14th Sedunnic forces and allies from Ryccia and Sporaltryus arrived simultaneously at the Siculites. Could you possibly imagine what it was going to be like?
I had prepared for the worst. From a small hatch I could see the still somewhat distant shores and a couple of our own cruisers. They were sailing zick-zack to, as I was told, occasionally broadside the coast and maybe outmanoeuvre any enemy torpedoes. Every time both the ships' sides faced the coast they fired a barrage. I've never heard such ferocious blasts! It certainly got our blood pumping!
Our commanders told us that the boys from the 1st Amphibious Brigade had created a beachhead in a harbour and that we would unload there. We knew we would not be coming directly into the heat, I mean who would send a cruise ship directly into battle? But we were all incredibly nervous. What would we see? Lots of dead people? What if there would be a counter attack?
As the ship made it's final manoeuvres to dock we all geared up and assembled near the doors. The ship's captain said something to us in the speakers, but I couldn't hear it over the sound of weapons getting loaded. When the noise faded out, the lieutenant [Unnjierr (1921-1999), platoon commander, later general] climbed a table, waited 'till we all got silent and spoke. "Soldiers, hear this! Trust me, we got this under control! The entire harbour is secured, without a single loss, barely a shot fired. Our orders are to take over the defence of this port, so that the Drettle ["Wellington Boots", nickname of soldiers of the amphibious brigades] can slap the Karnetvorians' ass somewhere else". He paused and smiled. "Hey, I know a song. I believe you've heard it before, it goes like this.
A day will come, we said
A day will come, we said
When everything we've been taught
Every single tiny detail
Will be put to use."
We all joined in:
" That day is to day!
That day is to day!"
We often sang that song. It's called That day is today! You probably know it. Well. The doors opened up and sunlight hit my face. We marched out, singing. Just like a parade at home! The first thing a saw was a couple of Drettle, sitting by a crane smoking. They looked relaxed. They approached us and asked us for cigarettes. To their surprise none of us smoked.
Our brigade soon relieved them and guarded the port as new reinforcements arrived during the night. First day of war was not bad, not bad at all.
- The navy, and in particular the 1st Submarine Flotilla, had been attacking shipments to the Siculites. This, in combination with the fall of Tasternine, had isolated the Karnetvorian forces. At the time of your arrival, they were desperately short of ammunition and fuel. Did you know about this when you landed there?
Actually no. It was explained later. Apparently they [our commanders] wanted us to be on the edge when we landed, also, they were not entirely sure how bad the supply shortage was. They did not want to give us false hopes. It was also highly classified information.
- The next day you left the port to liberate Josetown. What happened?
Everything happened. I will tell you all about it over a cup of coffee. Please join me!
This is the end of part one. Don't miss the second part!

"I do what's fun"
Hejerr Opalen, perhaps best known as Qwerty, is as busy as ever before. Two more Lini restaurants to open, post-production of Single Me III, and Stream coding. And this interview.
We meet at Ninntrypp 34, Ullenst, an address soon to house yet another popular Lini restaurant. The kitchen is the only place with chairs so far, and as soon as Mr. Opalen has signed and approved changes to the standing menu, I'm offered an empty chair near the stove.
- Standing would do me good, I know, but this has been a busy day. I just approved the new fries and the shrimp sandwich. Before that, we concluded filming the last scene of Single Me III down at the harbour. We had been waiting for the perfect morning light for over a month. Finally! In between, I managed to squeeze in some coding. And some chicken salad.
"Yeah, it was mad! We celebrated. The next great victory would be to persuade Vimmru to start streaming"
Mr. Opalen, or Qwerty as he insists I call him, clears his side of the table between us, puts his signature laptop there, clicks a few times with the pad and turns the computer towards me. Pie charts fill the screen.
- Any good programmer must be good at statistics, he says and clicks on one of the circles. - This one here shows how many of the most followed users are national leaders. A good portion, wouldn't you say? Statistics make programming fun, this is what keeps me going with Stream.
The social network Stream was founded almost five years ago. The amount of users grew steadily, but exploded when Hammerstarian and Qvaitican officials started to stream.
- Yeah, it was mad! We celebrated. The next great victory would be to persuade Vimmru to start streaming, ha ha!
Founder of Stream is perhaps what Qwerty is most known for today. But few can forget his role as Juice in the incredibly popular sitcom Frying Pan, a performance that earned him the Golden Fly twice for best child actor.
- Of course I was proud then. But I'm trying to move on. Juice haunts me, and I don't want to be remembered as that bully kid. He was actually not unlike how I was in person back then. Now my single driving force is to spread fun and joy. I do what's fun, simply.
Qwerty's lead role in Jennallu's Single Me movies earned him the title "Sedunn's Funniest Man", which he feels better about. The third movie, set to premiere in November 10th, is expected to break all box office records. Filming was however delayed when the popular actor suffered from problems with his blood pressure. One day he was found unconscious in his own apartment in Ullenst by a friend.
- I only have myself to blame for that. I wasn't not careful with what I ate. I got... excessive. I hated myself and almost gave up my restaurants, but I decided that as I had to change to a healthier lifestyle, why shouldn't my restaurants do that as well?
"Now my single driving force is to spread fun and joy. I do what's fun, simply"
The Lini restaurants changed their slogan from "fast goodfood" to "right goodfood", reflecting their healthier menu. The timing was right, the health boom helped the franchise to expand, and now there are over 30 restaurants all over Sedunn.
- The timing was right thanks to my statistics. We could see the trend early on Stream and other sites. If I only knew my own body as well.
So what about future projects, what do the statistics say?
- I can't tell! However, I've heard directing is fun...
I leave Qwerty to his statistics in his kitchen realising I hadn't asked many of the questions I had prepared. Well, that might be exptected when dealing with his energetic kind.

Opinion - Not really a "kingdom"
What do you associate the word "kingdom" with? If you ask a Sedunner, he will most likely answer "democracy", "elections", "freedom", and of course "tradition". This has to do with Sedunn being called a kingdom internationally (or at least in Austral). So far so good. But what about other types of kingdoms out there, totally different from the elective one in Sedunn? What about the historical Kingdom of Karnetvor?
The full official name of Sedunn in Sedunnic is Devtoved Sedunn. The original meaning of "devtoved" could be translated to "the people's voice land". This term was introduced to highlight that the monarch of Sedunn was elected by the people, and thus had the entire population's support in his doings, in contrast to neighbouring kingdoms with more feudal and autocratic systems. When introduced, there was no other nation with a similar system that Sedunners knew of, so there never was a foreign entity for which that term was used. Much later, when Sedunners came into contact with the Austral language, "kingdom" was used to describe Sedunn, which was natural since a single person ruled Sedunn, like many other nations. The difference, in most cases, was that the Sedunnic king always was elected (for life until the Reform of 1837, and with no more power than a prime minister or a president since the Reform of 1852). The term "kingdom" stuck until present day, and "devtoved" is still only used for Sedunn, although it would be just as applicable to parliamentary democracies and republics.
Abroad, "kingdom" is often associated with more undemocratic systems and monarchical/royal powers, this also sometimes happens when talking about Sedunn. A common mistake abroad is to address the Sedunnic king or queen as "your majesty/highness". With this article, I want to reach out to the international authorities, and our Sedunnic leaders to call for a change, and introduce the word "Devtovy" to the Austral language (as a few previous governments tried to pursue). This would clear any misunderstandings and do away with negative associations regarding Sedunn's official name.

BBQ Destroys Old Cannon
Grovne. Between 21:00 and 00:00 last night, someone decided to throw a BBQ party in the Trannienn Park near the old harbour, as evident by remaining chunks of coal and uneaten sausages. According to Seffi Akks, the city conservator, a fire was started inside the the 19th century cannon's barrel.
"I can see why they got the idea. We have previously noted how irresponsible people shoot fireworks from our old muzzle-loaded cannons. This gun might have survived if they hadn't poured water on it to put out the fire, as the rapid cooling made it crack."
The local authorities are worried this "will now become a thing", and plead to other BBQers to handle the city's historical heritage with care. "I can personally recommend the excellent BBQs installed by the city for all hamburger and sausage munchers out there", says Mr Akks.

New Law: Banks Required to Accept Cash
Grovne. As the number payments and transactions in cash continues to decrease, many banks have cut back on, or completely abolished, the possibility to withdraw or make deposits in cash. This has affected many elderly people, as well as small businesses, like kiosks, who rely more on physical money. Today, the Sedunnic government passed a new law that requires banks to always accept cash.
"We hope not only to help small businesses, but strive for redundancy for the society as a whole: we need to maintain two systems to avoid a total economic collapse, should the nationwide access to the internet be jeopardised, for example by cyber operations by a foreign power" says finance minister Lia Opalen.
A spokesperson for Vetem-Klajj, a local bank, responded with the following drip on Stream: "I can see why they made this decision, but four us [the banks], it will lead to increased cost, which we may have to compensate for by increasing the interests. Dealing with cash is costly, and people use it far too little."

5 Questions - With Vimmru II
Ati Lyssmiv jumpstarts Vilue's election coverage with five questions in five minutes for king Vimmru II.
Grovne. Sedunn's king for the last seven years, Vimmru II (Innienn), decided to run for a second term after having the Traditional Party on theirs knees begging him not to step down as party leader.
What did your wife, Mrs Aenn Innienn, say when you told her you would run for office again? What about your newborn?
It was our decision, together. I will have her full support, she will have mine, and we are confident it will work. Fortunately, the King's Residence is close to the parliament and the other state offices.
What would you consider your greatest achievement as king?
The ship Sedunn's course correction that has been mine and the party's work since 2009. We have provided the means for the industry to stay competitive and remain relevant globally. Sedunn is back on the international stage as a strong voice for democracy and peace. Providing aid to Transsuneria along with our allies, especially Karnetvor, was the culmination of almost five years of tireless work, and by the very dedicated diplomatic corps no less.
Some would say that the policy set by your party in 2009 and the involvement in the Tasternine Affair was a risky gamble, what would you say to those calling you reckless?
Sedunn's support of the Tasterninian declaration of independence from nationalist Karnetvor was admittedly controversial for that time, but that can be said about Sedunno-Karnetvorian relations throughout the 20th century. At some point you need to say stop, and we had a chance to make a real difference for millions of people. Just like with Transsunieria, we took it.
What would you consider your biggest mistake as king?
In hindsight, we might have been somewhat naive in thinking we could have discouraged, or even prevented the war between Qvait and Sporaltryus by ourselves. We should have sought a wider international condemnation and sanctions. This is part of the reason why we joined the SCO and later the SPTO.
Why should people vote for the Traditionalists?
If you want an active Sedunn that stays true to its ideals, and view broad solutions and collaboration as the way to go, you should consider voting for the Traditionalists.

Sedunno-Resentinian Naval Exeercises Unexpectedly Interesting
What will be the smallest exercise yet between SPTO nations arose unexpectedly much attention abroad.
Essela. Next week, two of Sedunn's destroyers will set course for the Sea of Baliish for a series of exercises and wargames with forces from Resentine, revolving around anti-submarine warfare. Described as the smallest exercise between Sedunn and Resentine in years, and despite taking place entirely within Resentinian waters unlike most other SPTO exercises which have often taken place closer to more 'sensitive' areas, involving whole fleets, this should have passed unnoticed among other nations. But the Frost Empire, having a navy heavily focused on submarines reacted with suspicion.
To alleviate the Empire's concerns, the Sedunnic Armed Forces Command decided to invite the Empire to send a delegation to observe the war games, which they accepted. The delegation will board the flagship, the Tapparad, and remain on-board as long as they like. Qvait will also be sending a delegation of their own.
"The mission, to detect, intercept and 'disable' their [the Resentinians] submarines will be challenging. Not only do we face one of the most competent navies in the world, we also have to be careful with the ice, that starts to break up now, captain Hyull of the Taparad notes. "It will be quite a show for our foreign guests, I reckon."

Vilue Live - 09.51 Wrote:Welcome! Today will be a busy day for Sedunn, with different activities and ceremonies planned all over the nation the entire day. Me and my colleagues here at Vilue International will report all day about what's going on.
So, what's going on? The 15th of December is the national day of Sedunn. This is in commemoration of the day, exact year unknown, when the five Sedunnic 'Brother Tribes' met in a place that was to be known as Grovne to choose a leader - or a king - to together "rule the lands between". From that day, there has been a continuous centralised leadership of Sedunn.
On the National Day, or Skaimmetulld, you get the day off. Having picnic for lunch in parks or other places, or anywhere peaceful on the countryside together with friends, family and neighbours is a common start (it's often sunny and warm). Depending on where you live, there are different activities you can attend throughout the day, like concerts and shows. Many public institutions open their doors for visitors, emergency services and military bases are always popular.
The highlight of the celebrations is the city parades and the following speeches by important public officials and the collective singing of the national anthem, Sufe skaimm, Sedunn - Our Land, Sedunn. Although the parades mostly feature the military, other organisations, societies, unions and associations participate. The student organisations often try to surprise the crowds with a performance with a theme inspired by an important event during the last year. The parade is very popular among tourists.
Then the day is rounded off with a dinner with your family and close friends.

Vilue Live - 11.42 Wrote:It's noon here in Grovne, and people are seeking refuge from the sun in the shadows of the trees in the Dommur Park by the parliament. Everywhere you look, there are Grovnians sitting on the ground on colourful blankets. It's time for the traditional picnic and the interest in this particular park is massive. Many have brought Sedunnic flags, which they have stuck into the ground. A family of four has found a good spot next to the mill ruin near the Inni Pond. We approach them to ask a few questions.
Hello! We are from Vilue Live, may we ask a few questions? Who are you?
- Sure! We are the Tillienn family, we live Essela normally, but I wanted to show the kids the celebrations in the capital, says the father.
How do you like it so far? What have you done today?
- The usual stuff, you know, haha. We visited the old Tapparad in the harbour and tried some fire fighter stuff at the department.
What are your plans for the rest of the day?
- Not sure yet. We hope we can find a nice cool cafe or something before the parade.
We leave the Tillienns, and will return from Grovne shortly, hoping to get a glimpse of the fighter formation.
Vilue Live - 11.45 Wrote:A question from JAC:
"How old is Sedunn really?"
No one really knows, actually. The unification of the "Brother Tribes" (mentioned earlier), is often regarded as the birth of the Sedunnic nation. It occurred before the end of the Iron Age, so that makes Sedunn at least 2000 years old (or even older depending on how you look upon the organisation and collaboration between the five tribes. They were all from the same people and spoke the same language.)
