News from your Country
#51

My political party has been torn between supporting Trump or not to. The Speaker of the US House Paul Ryan (very prominent Republican, VP nominee last time) has declined to endorse him as have other members. A lot of conservative media outlets are also mad right now because he will/has destroy(ed) the Republican Party.
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Remember when I said that the Venezuelan government and its puppet judiciary just go and declare unconstitutional any bill they don't like? Surprise, surprise; they fucking did it again.

In case you don't know Spanish, the bill's objective is to give people who receive housing units built by the State full ownership of their homes. The arguments given by the ruling are absurd; it says that the bill was a subterfuge to "put the edifications provided by the State to comply with the right to fair housing in the hands of the financial market". Simply reading the bill's text disproves that. The ruling also gives a list of constitutional articles that the proposed law would violate. After some research, namely reading the goddamn Constitution, I can say it doesn't violate any of them.

Here is the Constitution and here is the text of the proposed bill, in case any of you want to see for yourself (in Spanish).

I'm going to the Lampshade Bar. I really need a drink right now.

Maldito Maduro...

That text sounds even more ridiculous in Spanish. Geez, Maduro, just accept defeat already! What, you'll declare your recall "unconstitutional" next?!

I mean, he did simply block the censure of a minister, and pretty much said he wouldn't let the Assembly do its job. So he obviously doesn't care about democracy.

Pretty much, yeah. Oh, and I forgot the part where he issued a decree removing the Assembly's power to remove ministers, even if that power is given to the Assembly by the goddamn Constitution. Even worse, that is not the only decree he has made that directly contradicts the Constitution. There are at least three more that I can remember right now. The so-called "judiciary" is merely a rubber-stamp for Maduro and his cronies.

I'm glad Humala, here in Peru, didn't turn out to be so bad.

Heh. It will surprise you that statements like that are rutinary here. He literally says something like that in every speech he makes. The good thing is that he usually forgets about it afterwards. Usually.

In other news, the Governor of my state has said that any public official that gave his/her signature to the recall process against Maduro should be fired and a person applying for government-built housing who gives his signature shouldn't be given anything. Some government officials have said that the lists of people who signed for the recall should be publicly available, something that deeply disturbs me. I haven't signed or anything (I can't because of my age, and because of other reasons that I'm not comfortable saying in public) but I have the feeling that, if the lists are published, the people who signed will be persecuted.
