I woke up to a lot of news today. I haven't seen so much news in quite a while. In sports news, former (American) football player Aaron Hernandez, who was convicted and given a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd, was found dead in his prison cell in what was an apparent suicide. Also in sports, tennis star Serena Williams is 20 weeks pregnant. In political news, Congressman Jason Chaffetz announced that he will not run for reelection. In a Georgia special election, Democrat Jon Ossoff failed to win 50% of the vote, forcing a top-two runoff against Republican Karen Handel. In media news, Bill O'Reilly will no longer be working for Fox News after a series of sexual harassment allegations.

I just pose the question here too: Would anyone be interested in a (daily) news overview here (Thanks @Qvait for giving me the idea for it Happywide) or do you like this "system" we have now better (Like: Only the news, the user founds interesting enough to post here, gets posted here and the rest you already take/took from your sources anyway)?

News from Germany, 24th April 2017

The new report of the crime statistics by the police of Germany was published and presented by the minister of the interior Thomas de Maizière.
The number of politically motivated crimes rised in 2016 again, especially crimes related to right-wing extremism and political motivated crimes by foreigners.
In Hanover the "Deutschland-Dinner", organised by the "Handelsblatt" took place. One guest was Siemens-boss Joe Kaeser, who stated, that Trump would really want to do the best for the US. The Siemens-stock rose to an all-time high.
The USA imposes sanctions on 271 Syrian government employees and scientists as a reaction on the recent toxic gas attack, Assad allegedly has done.
Horst Seehofer, prime minister of Bavaria, wants to candidate as such and as head of the CSU-party (Christian-Socially Union) again. Joachim Herrmann will be the CSU's candidate for the federal elections in September.
A 23 year old German-Turkish medicine student, who worked as a doctor for IS in Rakka, admitted to have worked together with the terror organisation. Furthermore he gave important information on the vice-head of IS in Germany, Abu Walaa, so he could get imprisoned. The 23 year old man fled voluntarily from IS and is now part of a witness protection program.
After the first round of the French Presidential Elections, the German stock exchange "DAX" rose high. Especially banks like "Deutsche Bank" made big wins after the election.
The WTA-tournament in Instanbul started with a loss for German tennis star Andrea Petkovic. She lost against the Ukrainian Dajana Jastremska with 6:3, 0:6, 3:6.

Esperanza Aguirre, a former Spanish minister for education, former councilwoman of Madrid and former party spokesman of the parliament in Madrid resigned from her offices after a corruption scandal.
Today it was Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel. Fitting to this, the antisemitism report was published for Germany and sadly jews don't feel safe in Germany. Verbal antisemitism and insults are unfortunately common throughout all parts of the populace, especially when it comes to persons with a right-wing ideology. Physical attacks increased too and are mainly popular among muslims.
Marine Le Pen resigned from her position as party leader of the Front National. She wants to stand above party interests and gain as many voters as possible for the final ballott in May.
French authorities are investigating against the PSA-group, because of suspicions regarding faking the exhaust values of their diesel-vehicles like Volkswagen did.
And last but not least some football news:
In the 2nd Bundesliga the top game between the aspirants for the promotion to the 1st Bundesliga VfB Stuttgart and 1. FC Union Berlin ended 3:1 in favor of Stuttgart.
Stuttgart solidfied with that win its 1st place, while Union Berlin still has to fight, if the team wants to overtake Hanover and get the third place, which would lead to the relegation against the 16th place of the 1st Bundesliga.

Actually, I might do that. Sorry for stealing your idea, but I actually prefer this. This way we can throw up many topics, and still talk about what we feel is an important issue.

Gimme a few minutes to find stuff, I live in a former convict colony on a small rock in the middle of the pacific which has slower internet than Romania. No jokes.

The Aussie news. It is largely  Aussie stuff to do with Anzac Day, which is today. Today commemorates the sacrifice made by the Aussie and New Zealand Army Corps, in particular in the landing at Gallipoli, on the 25th of April 1915. It is probably the third or fourth biggest holiday in Australia.

I think, that's the point ^^
Our news are of course "from our country" and that it is politically and otherwise biased is normal too (even though my sources are everything from right-wing (Focus) to left-wing (SZ) thanks to Twitter).
