Logic Police

Want to know if something is realistic enough?

Call the Logic Police! Our staff will help you with any realism you need in your roleplays.

We don't formally require realism all the time, but most of our roleplays do happen in a Modern Tech environment, so realism will be often asked there. If you want to do a non-MT roleplay, feel free to do so.

Who are the Logic Police? Tounge

My impression of that ship is that it doesn't seem very feasible economically, although badass Happywide

While extremely powerful, I believe it would be extremely vulnerable to a reasonibly sophisticated opponent.

Sufficient application of money could make it happen, and given the entire process of R&D and construction took over 14 years, such a ship could be feasible. Not easily feasible, but feasible nonetheless. Some nations like to build breath-taking monuments and glistening palaces - we prefer to make hulking machines of mass destruction peacekeeping. Tounge

Structural concerns were also, well, concerning. This has gone far beyond any hope of SpringSharp doing a good job of extrapolating structural requirements; however, there aren't a lot of kilometer-wavelength tsunamis out there. There is a great deal of safety margin, at any rate, if you trust SpringSharp. Which, again, I don't, but there you go. There are no colossal huge open spaces like Jahre Viking, and that seems to help hold it together.

First of all, under no normal situation would this ship sail into combat alone. It is supposed to be a command ship and would likely be escorted by other smaller vessels. Either way, it is designed for long-range engagements (where it excels at with its powerful radars and massive missile firepower). Stemming from the belief that the Oceanus would destroy any large scale threat, the real threat would be several tens of thousands of speed boats with recoilless rifles and similar weapons attempting to board. As such, note things like note our hundreds of firing ports for marines, machine gun turrets and extensive smoke generating abilities. Of course, they have to get close first - the shown dedicated searchlight systems are definitely the tertiary system, after the primary (5MW) and secondary (1MW) laser systems. The laser turrets have mirror and associated optics multiplexed with undefined horrifyingly powerful searchlight systems, as well as fairly glorious telescopes for range-finding against ground targets. The main blinding system is the dozens and dozens of AAQ-24 infared countermeasure turrets. Those are the ones that use a low power laser to blind missile seekers; no reason that they can’t spin around constantly blinding humans so that passing civilians cannot even take pictures of the ship. The lights are more for use in non combat situations in friendly waters.

Similar threats might be posed by squadrons of Alfa-like submarines with a Natter-like nose of one-use torpedo tubes. Hence massive spam of anti-torpedo torpedoes, tons of sonar of all frequencies, and so on. The same applies to longer-range weapons such as ICBM's, as the ship is dotted with anti-ballistic platforms, including Neutron kill mechanisms.

The Logic Police will conduct an investigation into rhinotaz's new flagship. We will report back with our findings as soon as possible.

Qwert, the Logic Police is Farengeto, Kringalia, Sporaltryus, and to a much lesser extent, Awesomiasa.

The Logic Police have concluded their investigation of the N.N.S. Oceanus.

We have found it to be possible, but overall, infeasible. Battleships have been phased out of use, and we find them to not be resurrected with this ship.

For in depth reasoning and details as to why, please state a request with your specifics.

But Henn, you used a Superbattleship during the Sporaltryan War.

That was defense. And to be honest, no one really RPed with it that much.
#10

This is mostly defense too, Henn. The Oceanus was designed as part of a SABMIS, or Sea-Based Anti-Ballistic Missile System, which would be pretty important since Noctenos has a big coastline.

The natural ultimate conclusion would be a ship mounting radars of the PAVE PAWS class. However, SABMIS would not have been a terribly useful warship outside of this confined role, and PAVE PAWS is huge (you need AT LEAST 120x120 ft, and then a good source of power), so a truly useful multi-purpose warship with such radars would naturally hold just about whatever else one might want.

TL;DR: It isn't really a dedicated Battleship as much as it is an oversized multipurpose shore-defense missile cruiser.

Not to mention how the Rule Of Cool comes into play here.
