Issue XXXII – 2020 in Review

Summer is getting closer. This is noticeable not only because of the weather slowly becoming sunnier and hotter (at least in other parts of the world, not called “Germany”), but also due to the slight increase in roleplay activity in our region! What exactly has happened in the last few weeks, you can find out in the main body below. Furthermore you may look forward to upcoming roleplay events and the latest comic strip by Tin!

Recent events in TSPRP

Moving the map to Google Slides is underway. This means new claiming rules will be established and the map will be cleaned off of inactive nations. Our chief cartographer has proposed a way to do this, which has not been heavily criticised by the community up until now. This will most likely result in those changes being implemented until the new TIR arrives to you.

On another note the Arnchow project, where Kane and Besern try out, whether collab nations can be a viable alternative for the Pacifica canon, continues to develop further.
Another adventure awaits for Besern, as he tries out the idea of Olympic Games again. The last one, who tested this idea, was Ryccia, but unfortunately the Olympics back then fell flat. The TIR editorial team wishes Besern more success with his endeavour to provide a new engaging roleplay event to the TSP-RP community.

Another player deserving recognition in this issue for his constant work, is Qaz, who informs us about politics in his nation through interesting parliamentary sittings and speeches (Link to the Higher Chamber, Link to the Lower Chamber, Link to presidential speeches). Keep up the good work!

Breaking News from Pacifica

Pacifican politics were not as quiet as one would think. Here's an overview of the most important things, that have happened in the world.

The Bruuman Worker's Mojo Party has had their 7th Party Congress from 13 April to 20 April. Based on the decisions the party leadership has made, Pacifica cannot expect any changes to Bruuman foreign policy in the near future.

In a move, which surprised pretty much no one, Huawan secured a TSP-$ 100 million deal with Arnchow on building a high-speed train network in the Peonic Bailtem territory.

GI-Land has conducted elections on state level. They are a first indicator of what the federal elections could result in. It all looks like a "green miracle" is coming.

In the first few weeks, the United States of Izaakia have been in existence, many things have happened. Not only was a new constitution, national anthem and stock exchange introduced, but there have also been plans published for a major stimulus package and a "digital parliament". The spirit of peace is also wandering through the Keylian snow deserts, as the USI decided to lower their defence level since they don't see any imminent danger in the BU and Ryccia anymore. Wherever there is good stuff, there is also bad stuff happening though: Not even one month into their legislative period, the Liberal Party around President Blanc ran right into a corruption scandal, which has yet to be resolved.

Phanama decided in a referendum to join the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Furthermore the government was forced, due to protests similar to the "Youth for Climate" protests in other countries like GI-Land, to present plans on reducing the carbon footprint of the country.

Like it seems to be a tradition in Valkyria, Referendum Day was used by the voting population once again to expose the governing coalition. No single question on the ballot, which would have been in favour of the nationalistic government in Ravneby found a majority in the populace. One major "project" of the current government, the Kalkara War against Hystaiga, also loses more and more support every day, especially since the daughter of the Socialist's leader has been killed. She has become a symbol to the peace movement, representing all young Valkyrians, who never wanted a war and even less so fight in one, but had to give their life to the "fatherland" anyway.

Qaweritoyu dissolves a number of, some would say "unnecessary", ministries and continues on their path of having regular changes in important government positions. Prime Minister Barrett announced, she'll take a break from her position as PM due to lung cancer, which will be treated in the next few weeks, beginning with a surgery on 20 June 2021. We wish her good luck for the procedure and hope, she'll recover soon.
Lastly the country was shaken up by a scandal around sexual misconduct. The former vice-prime ministers Stewart Gill and Gary Pierce have allegedly "flashed" multiple people on several occassions. There is a controversial debate right now around whether such behaviour has to be punished generally in all cases or whether it depends on the "context" and how the flashed people received the act.

Ryccia announced to support the resistance movement in Hystaiga, but otherwise stayed quiet in current political affairs.

Shang Ye made the historic step to leave the Bailtem Union. Whether the BU can recover from this, is yet to be seen.
