Issue #91: Interview, President Elect Gabriel West

Journalist James McHenry of The Qvaitican Cascade had a one-on-one interview with President Elect Gabriel David West on Sunday, 1 March, 2015. McHenry asked the President Elect a series of questions about his upcoming presidency. "I felt compelled to interview Mr. West and what future he wanted to produce," McHenry said to Editor Alice Jamison, "I wanted to know more about what he wanted to do in his presidency."

McHenry's first question to the Governor, now President Elect, was what would his first action as President be? To that, Mr. West said he would repeal the socialistic bills passed under the Buzinsky Administration. McHenry asked an impromptu question regarding Sporaltryus' threat over the repeals and West answered that Qvait is an independent nation that is sovereign from Sporaltryus and that it should stay out of another nation's politics.

The third question was about expanding or contracting the 'Central Metropolis' consisting of Stockholm, Chicane, and Brooklyn. President Elect West said that the metropolis could expand adding that "the provinces of Alderney and Algonquin can be an urban landscape while Euron, Silesia, and Unicy stay predominately rural." Mr. West furthermore stated that the city of Brooklyn will have a boundary around it where it could no longer expand, seeing that it is in the province of Silesia.

A little more than four months ago, Qvait was rocked by a major earthquake which was overshadowed by the Sporaltryan invasion. McHenry asked President Elect West about what he was going to do about earthquake preparedness and natural disasters. West said, "We need to train ourselves to prepare for such disasters. And as such, I will go to Congress to fund programs that would teach our citizens how to be prepared for natural disasters and precautions to take once they occur."

McHenry then asked what would President Elect West do in international politics. Mr. West said, "I would form alliances and treaties with other nations in the South Pacific and the rest of the world. We need to make a name for ourselves. We have to show the world that not only are we a force to be reckoned with, but we give a hand to friends in need. So far, we have made a name for ourselves when we retaliated against Sporaltryus and when we helped out Ryccia. Every Qvaitican agrees with each other when they say that this nation needs a sphere of influence."

Question number six was what would West do with the Qvaitican Defense Forces. The President Elect said he would triple the budget of the Defense Forces and fund the construction of weapons and vehicles for the military. Mr. West said, "I want to make the QDF mean something in the world. We need to train our soldiers as if they were training to become special operators. As you may already know, I have military experience, and I know what I want to do with our military.

The next question asked was the President Elect's position about the Cleaner Air Act (CAA). He said, "I am a supporter of the bill. We all want to breathe in air that won't someday kill you." Mr. West added that the CAA is important for the future of the nation of Qvait. He also noted that millions of tourists come to Qvait because of its beauty and that harmful air would contaminate the nation's environment.

McHenry's final question was what legacy would the West Administration leave behind. To that, the President Elect said, "A stronger Qvait."

Issue #92: Consequences of Ryccian War hits Qvait

SYDNEY, QVAIT — Today, the government of Qvait is faced with a dilemma. Since last month, around 78 thousand socialist Ryccians who sought refuge in Qvait seek to stay. In the last few weeks, 22 thousand Ryccians had returned home, but the rest remained. For a month, there has been constant debate in the Qvaitican Congress about what to do with the immigrants.

So far, the Conservative Party, the congressional majority, wants to return the refugees back to Ryccia, but the Democratic Party wants to give citizenship to them. However, President Dmitri Buzinsky has not made a public standpoint and is not content to confront the predicament and leave the decision up to President Elect Gabriel West when he takes office on 1 April.

Issue #93: Qvait helps government of Darkstrait in pursuit of communist rebels

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — On 4 March, Qvait's new foreign intelligence agency, the Intelligence Service for Defense and Security (ISDS), was tasked with locating communist rebels who were blacklisted by the government of Darkstrait. Secretary of Security Victor Cutter said, "Even though we did not inform the government of Darkstrait, we were hoping that this would not go public until after we found viable leads."

Before the Secretary of Security made his statement, ISDS's spokesman stated that the agency "could not confirm nor deny" the allegations. However, because of Secretary Cutter's statement, it seems that ISDS is looking for these fugitives. To sort things out, President Dmitri Buzinsky exposed part of ISDS's operations by saying that it is using manpower and technology to find the communists in Darkstrait.

Issue #94: President Elect Gabriel West prepares for inauguration

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — In two and a half weeks, President Elect Gabriel West will be sworn in as the fifth President of Qvait. The President Elect said that he will be reaching out to every Qvaitican and all of the nations abroad and will hope that his addresses will cause ripples on the international stage. The festivities on 1 and 3 April have been dubbed by scholars at the University of Qvait, Sydney (UQS) as "West's Appointment with the South Pacific."

So far, eight nations will be sending delegations to Qvait to watch the festivities. The event planners of the festivities are so far disappointed because they were expecting at least sixteen nations to send a delegation. However, one planner said, "With or without the sixteen we wished for, the festivities will go on. The only thing I can say to those who won't send a delegation is that it will be a real shame for them not to come."

Issue #95: airQvait commissions several new aircraft

SYDNEY, QVAIT — airQvait, the nation's largest airliner, has commissioned 33 new passenger aircraft while retiring nine. Back in June 2013, airQvait ordered for 40 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft. As for the other seven, they will be commissioned on 15 April. This has been seen by stockholders as the "modernization of an already modernized airliner." The nine retired aircraft were Boeing 747s that had been in commission since the early nineties by the company's predecessor, Qvaitican Airlines.

airQvait President and CEO Christopher Franks said, "We are proud to commission these new aircraft and welcome them to the BlueStar family." By "BlueStar," Mr. Franks was referencing airQvait's lounge. This move comes after several hundred million people signed up for the AeroActive Plan, the company's frequent-flyer program, in the last year. With all of the new aircraft, airQvait's stocks are predicted to rise exponentially.

Issue #96: Qvait pledges allegiance to Ryccia

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — Despite the accusations of human rights violations occurring in Ryccia, outgoing President Dmitri Buzinsky has pledged allegiance to Qvait's strongest ally in Ryccia. Because President Buzinsky's presidency will end on 1 April, he is not reluctant to do what he wishes. President Elect Gabriel West, and opponent of Buzinsky, said that he was caught off guard by the outgoing President's decision.

President Buzinsky said, "The Pacific Republic of Qvait [will stand] by its ally in Ryccia and will withdraw from the SCO in the event of war." To his surprise, President Elect West said, "I must say, this is perhaps the biggest transformation in only a year. Last year's president would have kept out of war, but this year's president is the complete opposite." The President Elect would continue to say that if he was President today, he would have said, 'This nation will support Ryccia, but Ryccia must also be prepared to admit its mistakes and fix them.'

Issue #97: Qvaitican people shows disapproval of President Buzinsky's actions, possible impeachment

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — President Dmitri Buzinsky has, as President Elect Gabriel West puts it, "been completely reckless as his presidency is coming to an end." In a Qvaitican News Channel poll, 87% of Qvaiticans disapprove Buzinsky's support for Ryccia. Former President Johnathon Victor said, "We are disappointed that our President is going to send us into a war that is against the interests of the Qvaitican people. It's not just reckless but plain stupid."

Because of President Buzinsky's recent actions, there have been several calls in the Congress to impeach the President, which is the first of its kind in Qvaitican history. Led by Senator Nigel Hammond, Conservative, of Algonquin a group of 63 out of the 100 senators have signed a petition to impeach the President. In order for such a preposition to reach the Supreme Court, it needs four more signatures.

Issue #98: Qvaitican Congress threatened to impeach, President resigns

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — In a twist of events, outgoing President Dmitri Buzinsky has resigned from his post amid congressional threats to impeach. With his resignation, a president still has yet to attain a full regular term (Pres. Cutter started 8 March, 2012; Pres. Knight assassinated 8 June, 2013). As a result, Vice President Dominic Frost will be the President for the remainder of Buzinsky's term.

Because Frost is now the President for the next thirteen days, there will be a drastic change in Qvaitican policies starting before President Elect Gabriel West is in office. Now-President Frost says, "We will not be giving aid to Ryccia in any way unless it decides to clean up its human rights violations." As what will happen to the now-former President Dmitri Buzinsky? No one is sure what will become of him and what his future will be like.

Issue #99: President Frost gives Ryccian Prime Minister an ultimatum

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — After Ryccia rejected the Southern Cooperation Organisation's (SCO's) proposal, President Dominic Frost put down the hammer by demanding that Ryccian Prime Minister Dave Isvou resigns. President Frost said, "If this one action is taken, we will allow Qvait and Ryccia to continue to be allies. If not, Qvait will be forced to cut its ties with Ryccia."

In a public statement, President Dominic Frost said, "Even though we are allies, we cannot allow Ryccia to get away with human rights violations. The way I see it, we are doing what is best for Ryccia." So far, Ryccia has yet to respond to President Frost. In other words, it is their turn. As of yet, the Qvaitican public has not voiced any disapproval toward President Frost and instead voices support.

Issue #100: Qvait severs ties with Ryccia, rumors of a Qvaitican regime change

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — President Dominic Frost has called on the Qvaitican Senate to confirm that the country's relationship with Ryccia has ended. In his presidential office, President Frost said to a Capitol Qvait reporter that "I'm frustrated with Ryccia and I'm sure I'm not the only one. To save the interests of Qvait, something has to be done about Ryccia and its corrupt Prime Minister."

In the last few hours, there have been rumors circulating that Qvaitican special operators have been deployed in Ryccian territory to oust incumbent Prime Minister Dave Isvou. Additional rumors speculate that said special operators were training Ryccian civilians for combat. When asked about it, President Dominic Frost neither confirmed nor denied that it was true.
