BREAKING | KPL: "Bruuman agents killed Jones"

Grovne. At 13:00 today, the Sedunnic National Security Police - KPL - held a press conference about the conclusion of their investigation of the murder of Peter Jones. KPL has identified two individuals that executed the murder, and that they acted on direct orders from the Ge-Rouge, Bruuman State Security. The following is the sequence of events that has been established in the investigation.

18 January Bruuman citizen Evgeny Burgess arrives at Grovne Southern Airport with a flight from Transsuniera. Later he is observed meeting an intelligence officer from the Bruuman embassy. CCTV shows how he rents a car.

19 January Burgess and the rented car is filmed in Kodull in several places, including Jones' bistro. He books a room at a hotel, but never sleeps there. Witnesses say Jones' girlfriend meets an old friend and is given a gift. The car is filmed leaving Kodull before midnight.

20 January - 00:15 The last employees at Jones' bistro leave for the day, leaving Jones alone with his girlfriend Maria MacLeod, who had just arrived.

20 January - 01:00-02:00 Jones eats Bruuman chocolate from a gift box that is poisoned with the toxine from the spiny yellow blowfish, a very common species in the seas around Bruuma. Death is not immediate, he dies within two hours.

20 January - 04:40 Employees find Jones' body in the kitchen.

20 January - 05:02 MacLeod, who first is reported missing (which we reported earlier), checks in on a flight to Lián from Grovne, and leaves Sedunn.

Citing "military intelligence" both Burgess and MacLeod have been identified as agents from the Ge-Rouge, and it appears like MacLeod posed as Jones' girlfriend for at least two months. Like speculated, the KPL believes the murder is retaliation for Sedunn pressuring Huawan to leave the joint ballistic missile program with Bruuma, and also to send a message to other dissidents in the Bruuman exile community.

Sedunnic foreign minister Gjieramm has responded by declaring several members of the staff of the Bruuman embassy persona non grata. The KPL has asked Bruuman authorities to extradite Burgess and MacLeod. Gjieramm has also called for more sanctions against Bruuma.

ECONOMY | Oil found in Transsuneria

Ullenst | Niulandsheim. The Sedunn-based offshore drilling company KABB announced this morning that they have found considerable reservoirs of oil and some natural gas in the Transsunerian exclusive economic zone. According to KABB, the reservoirs are of substantial economical interest but further drilling would be needed to determine the actual size of the reservoirs. KABB also said it would be a technical challenge to recover the oil due to the depth at which is was found and "geological irregularities".

Today, the Transsunerian economy relies heavily on the phosphate industry, which suffers from decreasing profitability. Foreign aid is still a major part of the state budget. If the oil can be recovered, it could provide an important boost to the post-civil war economy. Exclusive rights to the oil and gas fields have been granted to Sonne Petroleum, a joint venture between the Transsunerian state, local phosphate mining companies, KABB, and Sedunnic and Transsunerian private equity firms.

Sedunn contributing to the find has sparked a debate. Environmentalist groups are worried about the impact on local marine life and the future greenhouse emissions, and they urge the Sedunnic government to put pressure on Niulandsheim to stop the drilling and to prohibit Sedunnic companies from funding the project. It is however unlikely that Grovne will comply. Sedunnic aid to Transsuneria is substantial, and many in both Sedunn and Transsuneria want Niulandsheim to become less dependent on Sedunnic money. The relationship between Grovne and Niulandsheim is also strained after king Vimmru threatened to stop Sedunnic aid if president Palmann had approved amendments to the law that would turn Transsuneria into a tax haven to attract foreign capital and investment. Vimmru would not risk souring the relations further. Additionally, Grovne has an interest in seeing a more diversified petroleum market not to become too dependent on specific nations for the crucial oil import.

DEFENCE | Airmobile forces receive anti-ship missiles

Grovne. The Sedunnic Materiel Administration Agency has announced that a first batch of the new R185 Unng anti-ship missile from the manufacturer SG has been delivered to the Sedunnic Armed Forces. The missile is fired from the shoreline against smaller ships and maritime craft. It is "man-portable", which means it can be deployed and fired by a small team of people rather than a special vehicle and is small enough to be hidden a bush. The R185 is well-suited for use in marine units whose natural arena is the shoreline. But the system is, notably, also being delivered to the Sedunnic airmobile forces, who normally would not fight in littoral areas.

It is believed that this acquisition is part of the Sedunnic effort to increase its military's overseas anti access/area denial capabilities. The ability to rapidly deny an opponent access to a specific location along the coast, such as a port or beach, could provide a decisive blow to its war efforts in the theatre.

It is not clear if an existing unit in the airmobile forces will be equipped with the R185 system or if new formations will be formed. The Sedunnic Armed Forces and the Defence Ministry have declined to comment.

OPINION | A great victor that deserves respect and help

This is an opinion piece. Matts Hyllu is president of the Friends of Ryccia society. The society was founded after the Great War to "preserve the spirit of cooperation", to promote tourism in Sedunn and Ryccia and to spread knowledge about the war, especially the joint efforts. Matts Hyllu served in the 2nd Sedunnic Expeditionary Corps.

The world owes a lot to Ryccia. If it weren't for them and their efforts, our region would be a fascist dystopia now. I'm horrified about the tone of the criticism towards Ryccia lately. Even the well-mannered and pensive Sedunnic king has accused the Ryccians of being "childish". Tell that to the soldiers in the mass graves on the Siculite Islands.

Now that external pressure yet again has stirred up trouble in Ryccia, we must lend a helping hand and show the Ryccians our support, not further worsen the situation by mocking their misfortune.

INTERNATIONAL POLITICS | Peacekeeping mission in Transsuneria over

Grovne/Niulandsheim. In a joint statement this morning, the Transsunerian president Emil Palmann and the Sedunnic king Vimmru II declared that the international peacekeeping mission in Transsuneria is over. In 2014 an international coalition, with major contributions from Sedunn and Karnetvor, intervened in the Second Transsunerian Civil War to enforce peace between self-declared Grandmaster Soormann and his Forinsel-ethnic Purist Party and the Federationalists. Since 2018, Sedunn is the last nation with troops left. The plan was for Sedunn to keep peacekeeping troops in Transsuneria until the conclusion of 2022, now, three years early, the Sedunnic troops are handing over their tasks to the newly founded Self-Defence Forces of Transsuneria and the police.

According to the joint statement, the early withdrawal was enabled by "intensified training of domestic troops" and "successful economical and welfare reforms". Karel Jungmann, researcher at the Faculty for International Studies at University of Transsuneria, also believes that Sedunn needs to free its strategic resources tied to the peacekeeping operations, likely in preparations for an escalation of the Reizen Civil War.

"Sedunn has committed some its most mobile formations in this campaign. I believe they will be needed elsewhere now. However, there's some doubt that the newly formed Transsunerian units are up for the task."

Sedunn will not completely withdraw from Transsuneria. A permanent garrison has been established in Floodport, which is mainly tasked with naval logistics support and service to support the Sedunnic declaration of guarantee of independence of Transsuneria.

All nations that have been involved in the peace enforcing and -keeping operations in Transsuneria have been invited for a military parade and celebrations in the capital.

BREAKING | Massive Sedunnic strike against the RIM

Grovne. Reports are coming in that the Sedunnic military has initiated an extensive bombardment of RIM military assets. According to unconfirmed reports from Reizen there have been explosions from "nowhere". Futhermore, Sedunnic fighter jets participating in the previously announced exercises are returning to their bases without the missiles that they had when leaving their bases earlier today (see photo taken by an anonymous source above).

The Sedunnic government and military have refused to comment, but refer to a joint press conference that will be held at 22:30, Great Grovne Palace, which can be seen as a confirmation of Sedunnic involvement.

BREAKING | Palmann: We have lost all contact with the island

Niulandsheim/Grovne. Following reports during the night of power outages and loss of all communications with Karelins, the third largest island of Transsuneria, President Palmann held a brief press conference at 13:00 on the situation. He confirmed that all attempts at re-establishing contact with the island had been unsuccessful and that boats trying to reach the island had been fired at by unidentified personnel.

- We are dealing with anonymous terrorists, who have yet to make any demands. I have ordered closing our airspace and issued a recommendation agaist travelling the sea surrounding Karelins. We have strengthened the security around key infrastructure and started mobilising the Reserve Police.

Mr. Palmann said that a total mobilisation of the Defence Forces would not happen at this time and declined to comment on rumours of exchanges of fire at some security checkpoints on the country side. When asked about calling for assistance from the Transsunerian ally Sedunn, the president said the following.

- This is a domestic issue that we must be able to deal with ourselves.

The president was also asked about the status of the former president and convicted war criminal Horace Soormann, who was rumoured to be serving time in the Fort Maximilian prison on Karelins.

- I have no information to share at this time, answered the president.

The next step will be re-establishing contact with the island and "make preparations" to regain control. What these preparations would include was not specified.

The Vilue International asked for a comment on the situation by the Sedunnic Foreign Ministry.

- We are deeply concerned and monitor the situation closely. Our garrison in Floodport is on high alert and ready to assist [the Transsunerian government]. We have frequent contact with Transsunerian authorities, answered Till Mapp, press secretary at the ministry.

She confirmed that no request had been sent by the Transsunerians for Sedunnic aid.

FOOTBALL | Analysis: Third time not lucky

Head coach Aku Grevienn reacts to the own goal.

Gianlucastadt. I'll go right ahead and say it: this was the worst game I've ever had to watch. We were promised the perhaps most tense match of the tournament, but what we got was one of the more dull ones where neither team achieved a good offence. The RIM are excused, they were not the favourites. Sedunn however... The Jolly Boys usually play high-pace offensive football that's just plain fun to watch, but what we've seen so far in this tournament is the opposite, and the reason spells Grunberg-Eipp.

Well, to be fair, it's not their fault. The so-called dynamic duo usually play splendid football. Karel Grunberg both won the Fere 1 (Sedunn's top professional football division) with his Goends Innt and was awarded player of the year 2020. Hasst Eipp had a great season in the Gianlucan top division with SV Südtor. When unleashed together, magic happens. Usually. And that's why head coach Grevienn this year made the entire formation all about them. He basically put them in the front, relying on them to score all goals, then put the rest of the team on the defensive. Quite risky. When they don't performed well - surprise, few goals are scored.

This was hopefully the last match with this formation. Third time was not lucky. Sedunnic football fans will have to hope that the abnormal self confidence of Grunberg and Eipp has not been ruined. Because Sedunn needs them in the team. Not as a team of their own.

P.s. To all of you who wanted me to join the bandwagon thing against Hevvtem: shame on you! It was an accident. Own goals happen. It was Grevienn who truly ruined the match.

POLITICS | Speaker of the parliament to be head of state

Grovne. Despite being called a kingdom internationally, Sedunn is a de facto republic where the king or queen is both the elected head of state and government. In essence, king Vimmru II is both president and prime minister. These roles were never separate. However, to defend the interests of the state, i.e. the people of Sedunn, the speaker of the Sedunnic parliament is an appointed politician who is widely regarded as neutral and accepted by a supermajority of the parliament. The most important role of the speaker is to defend the constitution and the democracy, which is similar to the role a president in many other countries. A bill has now been proposed to separate head of state from the role of the kings and queens and formalise the role of the speaker. The bill has support by a majority of the parliament and will likely pass, but will also have to pass a second time after the next elections, which is likely.

The Sedunnic speakers are not totally unknown to the international audience; they often accompany the kings or queens in international negotiations, both to make sure the Sedunnic constitution isn't compromised and to show that the Sedunnic people supports the actions of the king or queen.

The bill will likely not mean that Sedunn will be called a republic internationally, especially since head of government still will be called king or queen.

BREAKING | Allied victory in Transsuneria, Soormann dead

Sedunnic troops returning from the jungle.

Niulandsheim/Grovne. The Allied Joint Command consisting of Transsuneria, Sedunn and the Frost Empire has announced the fall of the last pocket of resistance of the occupying forces of Soormann Loyalists and RIM special forces in Karelins, Transsuneria. By employing what is called "surprise encirclements" using airmobile troops and marines simultaneously, the Allies were able to cut off individual bunkers and other defensive installations, overwhelming the defenders.

A formal capitulation of Soormann loyalists was received by Frost troops, ending the almost 6-month long occupation. RIM troops never surrendered and were either killed or captured, while some have managed to escape. Former dictator and self-proclaimed Grandmaster of Transsuneria Horace Soormann was found dead with several week-old gunshot wounds, implying he was killed by someone within his own ranks.

The civilian population has suffered hard under the occupation and President Emil Palmann has requested immediate aid from the international community. Sedunn has pledged healthcare and food. Most Allied troops will be pulled back from Karelins and head home for some much needed rest and recreation after having participated also in the fighting in Reizen. Some troops will remain on the island to assist in the emergency relief efforts and to clear out mines and unexploded munitions.

Access to the waters south-east of Transsuneria will stay restricted, citing concerns about remaining RIM submarines and wreckages from the previous naval battle.
