I've argued that very same thing.

The EC's abilities are completely unwritten which leads me to think the EC has an extremely wide array of discretionary power or no power at all.
The EC's powers are easily defined by the past year of practice. They do not get to pick and choose which administrative authorities they have. The EC is expected to set up election threads, verify nominations, strike out multiple votes, strike out improperly filled out ballots, and make sure people without citizenship masking aren't voting. The EC is not expected to make decisions on which masked citizens are and are not eligible to vote. If you're masked as a citizen, you are a citizen until such a time that you no longer have that mask. The EC doesn't make that determination.

It's an unwritten rule. A verbal agreement if you will.
Tradition is fine and all, but law trumps tradition.
TAC it's the same with Bel. In the eyes of the law both are innocent however you have to use common sense and think for a moment and you will see what is has done is corrupt and illegal.

You cannot break a law that doesn't exist. Therefore, corruption in this matter is questionable at best.

Then Bel's case is also questionable, by your logic Bel is 100% innocent.

He IS innocent in the fact that he never went to trial.

Holy cow what the heck is this?
I feel really bad for Hile. He has to make a tough call here that had a huge impact on the election. I honestly don't know what is the right thing to do. Almost every action impacts someone poorly who doesn't deserve it.
I do think he acted within his right as EC.
I understand GRs emotions, it might be the most brutal election loss in our regional history. I just want to clarify that while I didn't vote for you, you are a valued member of the community. You don't have to post that you've earned the right to be here, your actions have shown you do. And I don't think anyone is looking for you to leave the region.

But that's the danger. If people worry about the elections, or feel like they are not needed, they may just walk out the door and never look back.

Who ever said "elections aren't needed"?

Perhaps we could have a clause for people to contest election results to the Courts within like say, a two week period after it concludes? This would provide some oversight with regards to the conduct of the EC and elections in general, and is what is done in RL jurisdictions as well.
