Facts about your nation

In the Ryccian and Kyrinian Judicial Systems, there are three basic pleas: Guilty, Responsible, and Not Guilty. "Responsible" is a plea that is submitted when the crime in question was accidental, or when the crime deserves no punishment (for example, you might kill someone in self-defense, or take something wrongly, kill someone by accident, or just be clumsy and have done something by accident).

Unlike in other nations, labour unions in Ryccia usually fight for their own members. If they negotiate a wage hike with their employer, only the union's members will be affected. Literally, two workers can theoretically form an union with themselves as the only members and fight for their interests, but that does not obviously happen. If this hypothetical union achieves a deal with their employer, the deal only affects the two workers. This has resulted in major companies having various worker's unions, all of whom individually negotiate, or, if advantageous, cooperate and organize as a single force on issues sometimes.

Liberimery has traditionally been a matriarchal society. Prior to gender equality reforms. The lack of a true Head of Government/Head of State is reflected by the Semi-Presidental nature of the government. Foreign relations, both diplomatic and war efforts, were the traditional domain of the men (Executive Branch), while domestic governance was the women's job (Legislatures, especially lower hoses) Although modern Liberimery has had both male First Speakers and Female President they are few and far between.

Due to a quirk in the Constitution, Liberimery does not require a state government to be a republic so long as it offers referendum voting and recall voting. One of Liberimery's 10 States is a constitutional monarchy rather than a constitutional republic. They were long considered the "crazy" state before they established the second monarchy.

Army Structure Reform 2014 is labelled as the largest reform in the Sedunnic Armed Forces since abolishing the regimental system before the Great War. The reform reintroduces the division level to the army, and the divisions shall be responsible for training of specific units, coordinate with civilian authorities in times of crisis and war, and to command units within their respective designated defence region both during peace and war.

The field brigades have been fully mechanised and their access to artillery has been increased by 50%. One field brigade has been disbanded and instead an airmobile brigade has been introduced, following the policy of the Vimmru Cabinet to re-establish more expeditionary capabilites. The mountain brigades are disbanded, transforming them into several independent battalions, intended to allow coverage of a greater area.

In response to the increasing threat of hybrid warfare and terrorism, every defence region now fields a so-called security battalion. Duties include policing, anti-subversion, reconnaissance, force protection and counterintelligence.

National symbols of Sedunn

Flag

The flag of Sedunn has five equal horizontal stripes, in alternating dark blue (top) and white, and the proportion 25:39. Today's design (exact shade of blue and proportions) was established by passing the National Symbols Law in July 12, 1853. Blue and white are traditional Sedunnic colours.

The first mention of a Sedunnic flag is in the 14th Grovne Chronicle from 484 CE. Queen Olas I ordered flags for the opening of the yearly occurring Forum where all Sedunnic cities sent their representatives. Until then, shields depicting the Star of Limmvasd and the Brother Spears had been used by the Sedunnic state (see Coat of Arms).

Artist's interpretation of the original Sedunnic flag

Olas I let five blue and white vertical stripes sewn together represent the Brother Spears. However, later many flags were seen being ripped apart along the stitches by the wind, and the flag was turned 90 degrees. Having the stripes oriented horizontally and in the direction of wind made the flags more durable. Over the years the flag was given a more rectangular shape to catch wind better when flown at sea.

Originally a clearer shade of blue was used, but it often tinted to a shade more similar of what is used today.

Today, in popular interpretation of the flag, it is said to represent the nation's geographical location. The two white stripes represent the snowy tops of the two mountain ranges that Sedunn is located between, and Vastraenn (an overseas territory with vast glaciers). The blue band in the middle represents the most important river, Setru, flowing through the nation, and the top/bottom stripes represent the two surrounding seas: the South Pacific Sea and the Plannsevvd Sea.

Coat of Arms
There are two coats of arms in use in Sedunn. The Greater Coat of Arms may only be used by the Sedunnic government, and the Lesser Coat of Arms is used by the state and it's various authorites and organisations.

[Image: QS3J2EW.png] 1 - The five Brother Spears: Sedunn was founded when the five most powerful Sedunnic chieftains (the "Brothers") met on neutral ground, sticking their spears into the dirt leaving their rivalry behind, to chose a common leader, a king. The bundle of spears represents unity among Sedunners and the mandate of the monarch to rule the common Sedunnic lands.

[Image: rhYvPi5.png] 2 - Crown: The crown is given by representatives of the people to the head of the government to represent their official endorsement. It is a symbol of democracy in Sedunn.

[Image: 5qLMyNO.png] 3 - Oak branches: In Sedunn, the oak is a common symbol of wealth and prosperity.

[Image: VbiVI50.png] 4 - Star of Limmvasd: Predating the unification of Sedunn, the Star of Limmvasd is the oldest and perhaps most iconic common Sedunnic symbol. It has its origin in old folktales about how the ancient Sedunners settled Sedunn. According to the legend, their ancestors were guided by a twinkling star that rested on the highest summits of the Limmvasd Mountain Range. The star is meant to look like it is twinkling. It is common symbol representing Sedunn also on its own. It is featured on military vehicles and sport kits.
