Sentient Species in TSP
#21

I like other species other than humans being sentient as well. So, I accept those three.

Once we start letting people have their own species we will inevitably have one of two situations:

1. Everyone starts getting their own species, resulting in dozens with several inevitably being created as inherently superior (stronger, smarter, etc.). Basically we end up with a sci-fi universe in MT form.

2. Only a few limited people get species and even then get the species only to themselves, at which point users will complain about this unfair limitation and why certain users will get this special treatment. This will spark either arguments or a switch to Scenario 1.

Oh look, I barely read this thread and my prophecy came true.

Behold the Homo Livi! Smarter than humans, stronger than humans, far longer lived than humans... Congratulations! You automatically win every racial comparison ever! All hail the superior Livi race!

........I don't like your tone, you say you're a college student, but all I hear from you is, honestly, quite insulting.

You must know that Homo Livi was driven out by humans into plot 056, and they hated them. But their pacifist nature made it almost impossible that they would oppress Homo sapiens. That is why they all gathered in plot 056, and after a long lengthy process, they decided to isolate themselves from the rest of the world.

Just like the Neanderthals, Pure homo livi do not exist anymore. Hammerstar only has homo sapiens, however, they retain some characteristics of the Homo Livi, just as a percentage of europeans attain some percentage of Neanderthal DNA.

Only 20-50% of the human DNA is from Homo Livi, and the only thing that was taken from the Homo Livi DNA is:

The ability to withstand extreme temperatures (but only until -25 celsius)
Average height of 1.9 metres
The scary Glare
The alluring and attractive faces
Pacifist and Docile Nature
Their truthful behaviour
They like to study and play sports

That is all, the people of Hammerstar does not live until 500 years old, nor is more intelligent than others. Nor are they physically more robust than others. Only a part of their mannerism and behaviour is based from the Homo Livi.

Besides, if you want an argument on the age length, several religious documents and legends have documented that prophets and other characters lived a very long time, surpassing many humans.

How about we regulate the creation of these species? Having none that can be considered all around superior, and making the species available to anyone who wants them I think would be fair. In Hammer's case, I'd be fine with having an all around superior species since it is extinct, and only passes down a few traits to the living descendents.

Aye, as long as it doesn't make the TSP universe completely unbalanced, I have no qualms about it. However, too many species would raise quite a few complications - there must be some sort of limit.

If there are nations wanting to have other sentient species, I would strongly urge them to create a FT version of themselves, where such species exist, and from which an alternate roleplaying universe can be developed. Having multiple sentient species in an MT environment is asking for trouble. Instead, it would be perfectly acceptable to roleplay in two separate universes.

You still only prove my point. They're stronger, better looking, live longer, are more intellectual (a fancy way of implying they're smarter). Still superior to us in many ways, and all these magical extras still come with no evolutionary drawbacks.

I'd also scarcely accept sensationalized many millenia old stories as fact.

I do have to agree with this, though:
