I stated that they're slightly stronger then humans, but also slightly less intelligent. Overall they're very similar in terms of capabilities.

Question:

If they are so similar, why do they need to be a separate species? Can't they be regular humans that simply have slightly different physical characteristics? (Just like people in X are taller, or people in Y have lighter skin, etc)
