Comment: The good Meeting

One would've thought nothing bad has happened when special envoy Delagarde from Bzerneleg and the Gianlucian chancellor and foreign minister met each other.
Sure, they were not really seen together by the public, but that's probably because Leader Gianluca IV. wanted to keep that meeting as secret as possible. In the Reizen conflict, that's what gets officially said, GI-Land supports no side in particular.
This changed today after a speech of the Leader in a short press conference:

The Original Speech

"Well, good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I'm pleased once again to be here and to answer some of your questions. Before you do that though, I'll start to give a little outlook to what GI-Land is going to do at the moment.
In just a few weeks summer break starts for the parliament again normally. We decided that this break won't happen at this time in this year, because we get pressing topics on the table, that need to get worked on first before we start going into any vacation.
Those matters are mainly based on foreign affairs and include especially the current rise of the archipelago nation of FiHami, where racial tensions thrive at the moment; and of course the Reizen theatre.
Regarding the first topic, we of course condemn this behaviour by certain so called "leaders" of the nation. The Empress of FiHami can be sure, that GI-Land will be on her side, when battling against apartheid in any sense.
As for Reizen, the Gianlucian government had a good talk with officials from Bzerneleg and we understood, what Bzerneleg is going to do or wants other nations to do in this conflict. We always emphasised our neutrality in the conflict, but time has shown that we can't stay neutral completely.
We took a look at the current situation in Reizen and we need to make clear, that GI-Land sees several actors in there as not a helping hand. The RIM is a dangerous movement, that is responsible itself that Reizen isn't independent yet.
The Imperial Federation of Frost is also not really doing much at the moment for stopping this conflict, which would be to come back to the Treaty of Grovne from autumn of last year. Now unlike the RIM's position, the IFF's position can get understood. It's their territory, they need to defend it from subversive elements like the RIM or other separatist movements, that are NOT entitled to call themselves the voice of the people. The voice of the people can and has to be heard, but in a referendum in a peaceful region, surveilled by the WF like agreed on in the Grovne Treaty.
We welcome especially Sedunn's and Bruuma's will to not intervene militarily into this conflict - at least at the moment - and to stay strong and defend the position of coming back to the ceasefire agreement, getting the people back to the table, letting them decide what's good for them under supervision of the WF and Frost.
We understood in our talks that Bzerneleg per se is on that side too, but we were also understanding that they - albeit admitting the IFF has sovereignity over this region - would not accept a permanent sovereignity of Frost over Reizen.  They want to come back to the ceasefire and would want the so called "Reizener's voice" to win the upcoming referendum, because the government of Bzerneleg clearly does not trust the Imperial Federation of Frost to provide all important freedoms they want the Reizeners to have.
We are not agreeing in this point. Who, if not the IFF itself, could provide all necessary freedoms and peace? If the referendum is in favour for an independent Reizen, we can argue, based on the constitution of the IFF, how to accept that referendum's result, but if it's not or if it can't be done due to constant terroristic behaviour by the separatists, then I'm sorry, but then we'll have to stick to our friends from the north-west.
The Gianlucian government decided today that all parties militarily involved in the Reizen conflict will get met with divestments from the Gianlucian side. This conflict takes already way too long and if the parties don't listen to Sedunn's words, then maybe GI-Land's actions need to do the job and send out a crucial sign to the world.
We will see how this sign will get answered by the other parties and if necessary, we're keeping open the option to bring our diplomats back to GI-Land."

Was that the smartest move to make? Surely those divestments and warnings regarding a diplomatic ice age can be effective, but listening to those words, this action also sounds quite bitter. Is it maybe just an answer on how tired GI-Land is in this conflict? That it couldn't keep up the promise of being neutral? Instead of being neutral, just attacking anyone not completely their opinion - apart of Sedunn and Bruuma?
Whether it was nice and wise or not, it was definitely needed. This conflict has too many parties looking for their own loot in this war, while there's no real party just calling everyone selflessly to end this conflict and no party really supporting that call by real actions like the divestments announced now by the King.
Will those actions be effective in any way? Time will tell. But it's definitely a strong sign that shows: This conflict has the region in its claws completely, but GI-Land won't break its back because of it. Neither for some separatists, nor for their friends in Frost, nor for some Bzerne delegates they ate a piece of cake in secret with.

Strunk and the World Forum

It was a rainy afternoon when GI-Land finally accepted their nomination for another term as the seat of the World Forum.
While this does not guarantee the actual outcome of the upcoming vote - FiHami and Hystaiga are also promising candidates - it is at least a first step in the right direction for the Federal Republic, which already had posession of the speaker position in the first speakership-term, but Mr. Strunk gave it up and entrusted the Omegan ambassador with this task.

Now, two years after his first election, Mr. Strunk tries it again. "We are in an exceptional situation. The Reizen Conflict still hasn't ended yet, even though it looks like it could end at any given moment. Meanwhile a WF member - namely Valkyria - has nothing better to do than to attack another member based on loose indications, probably to push the current nationalistic agenda. To top that all of, we all know that almost every country in the South Pacific struggles with something they probably could need the help of the WF of. Seeing that not many countries trust the WF with these issues is - to say it nicely - concerning. The idea of the WF gets torpedated by this mistrust and also the inaction of several countries in there - also the inaction of GI-Land of course."

GI-Land was more often than not criticised for being too passive on the world stage. Sanctions against Valkyria are not in sight and an intervention in the Reizen conflict to end the misery rather sooner than later are only two examples of where leaders all around the world would have expected at least some promising acts from the current government or the WF-ambassador Strunk. "We are aware that our stage presence needs improvement, but I don't see how this should affect the actual competences of Mr. Strunk. He has fairly clean vest and whatever he touches becomes something good normally, so I don't see a problem in him running for speakership again", King and Leader Gianluca IV. comments the situation.

The question is of course: What topics does he want to touch?
"I think, there are three subjects coming to my mind. The first is what the WF was built upon: We want peace. Seeing conflicts everywhere without a glimpse of a solution in sight sometimes and only Sedunn, but not the WF, calling for negotiations is something that shouldn't be the reality in our globalised world.
Secondly the WF still hasn't decided officially on their commitees fully yet - currently they work independently more or less how they want without a resolution passed by the WF assembly. In my first term I was already starting the process of making commitees and their rules official, but none of my successors seem to have had an interest in continuing that effort, probably seeing how the commitees work 'well enough' without such a resolution.
Lastly - that's a topic I want to bring in personally when the commitees are set up - we hear concerning numbers from FiHami regarding mental health. While our King and Leader already promised me, he would support FiHami on his own with doctors and financial aid, I think, this is a World Forum matter. Together we can send more logistical and financial aid to that country to help fight the increasing severe mental health problems and work out a draft for a prevention strategy several WF-member governments could implement voluntarily in their own home countries. This is what I stand for and this is what I want to get voted for."

How the World Forum member nations actually decided will be revealed in just a little less than a week. Until then the current speaker - Tavtid Lekmienn (Sedunn) - resumes his office.

New Poll suggests SLP doesn't reach what they've expected

The surprising incorporation of the Pirates into the Social Liberal Party caught many political experts off-guard.
Same applies to the voters that got questioned on their position of these new SLP tactics:

"I'm a bit disappointed. PPG was my home for my voice, was not one of those 'old parties', had their focus on the moving topics of the youth - and now they sold themselves to the old elite", comments Anna S. - PPG-voter in 2017 and member of the party. She won't be a SLP member in the future though.

"We now have more ressources and power to put our topics on the political agenda of a party that's almost guaranteed to win the most elections. Yes, we might lose our name or autonomy, but the vision is still here and maybe we can make them reality now quicker than before", says Pyt F., PPG-member since 2018 and future SLP member.

"The appeal of PPG was the mix out of sometimes far-left and sometimes very, very liberal positions. Now we're simply an average within a big swarm of old, almost conservative fish. And don't get me started on the missing grassroots democracy movement within SLP and stuff like that... I'll find a new home for my views eventually", summarises a PPG-member and 2017 voter, who wants to remain completely anonymous.

There's definitely a split to be seen in the soon-to-have vanished party, yet how does this affect the polls?
Let's take a look at it:

It's visible that, considering the climate change movement from last year as well as the current corruption scandal of SDP, SLP can't feel a sense of pride when looking at these numbers. Would Königspalast get a new election today, they'd lose percentages in comparison to 2017 albeit being in a better position than back then, having general support for most of their ideas. The main reason for that is a sense of mistrust and fatigue of the party that's already in power since more than a decade.
For young voters they seem too old, not innovative enough - even if they successfully incorporated the main points PPG was making in their campaigning program and even though they can also be seen as a very "green" party.
For the old voters, they seem too progressive, sticking too little to what's working well, wishing for a stronger leader than Kirchmann or Gianluca IV. are. The result is effectively that younger people go to the Greens or the other left-parties, the older people go to the conservative, yet diplomatic KPHA or the more liberal FPG.

Rumours from Atlantis are in the room, SLP is planning for a fusion with SDP too, but would this really be effective? Would that be a valid, fair and respected move to "eat up" political opponents or would that be a sword ready to behead the progressive center of the political spectrum in GI-Land completely?

Time will tell.

Greens attack Social Liberals for "Airport Incident"

Yesterday the MPs of the Königspalast were discussing the report on the international and local airports of GI-Land open to public air traffic. The report included several timetables and economical as well as ecological statistics. The ministry for infrastructure has commissioned these papers due to the pressure it received from the people, especially from younger voters that participate in the global "Youth for Climate"-movement. The goal of the research was to determine airports that don't have a good ratio of economic significance and ecological foot print.

That report was the reason why the green-liberal coalition brought in a motion that aimed towards closing at least five local airports and the international airport Atlantis JK. However the vote on that motion was not going the way the coalition wanted to - or was it?

The Green Party was the only one that voted in favour of closing the airports of Leandrostadt, Arianastadt, Kernstadt, Südtor and Westtor. The Pirates voted against closing any of these airports, but at least supported their partner in the case of Atlantis JK. The Social Liberal party however voted partly against each proposal or abstained from voting. The result was, that the opposition, first and foremost the left LGI and the conservative KPHA, voted together with more than two and a half coalition parties against the coalition's own proposal.

The Greens are visibly angered about this. In a press conference they stated, that they knew beforehand, the Pirates are not a fan of their idea and will vote against the motion. However they were not aware "that the SLP are such backstabbers".

"We were trusting our partners to stand with us this time. We really thought we can finally achieve at least some minor progress into the direction of more environmental protection by closing some of the unnecessary airports our nation has. But that trust and that belief are no more. I think, we can clearly see here, why our green policies don't shine through as much as they are supposed to. I know, there are many capable politicians in the SLP, but that doesn't change the fact, that it seems we work together with traitors to the environment", stated Sabine Meischel, vice-speaker of the Königspalast of the Green Party.

Marja Sanddorn, vice-chancellor of GI-Land and also part of the Green Party, relativised that comment a little later in a TV interview with GIN News:
"Yes, we are a bit disappointed, but the people can be assured, this coalition still thrives to work together in unity to create the best solutions for today's political problems."

The completion of the World Forum

It has been three years since ten nations in Pacifica agreed on founding an organization, which promotes peace, diplomacy and voluntary cooperation between them. An organization not as exclusive as the ones, which have existed before. On 19 March 2017 the nations of Sedunn, Erinor, Omega, Valkyria, the Frost Empire, Huawan, GI-Land, Ryccia, Karnetvor, Resentine and Pax Dracon signed the charter of the World Forum, but the development of the forum, that was envisioned in that paper, went kind of slowly.

In November 2017 the position of a speaker in the Assembly was adopted, but neither me, as the first speaker, nor the following ones were working on a fully functioning World Forum. We were once again on the brink of having another international organization becoming not only toothless, but also insignificant.

When the Frost Empire suggested, that GI-Land shall take the position of speaker once again, I don’t think the general expectations were high. It was more likely, that there was just another speaker needed, which hopefully will not bury the organization with its continued stand-still politics. But these expectations – some might want to call it “hopes” – were not met.

In the last few months, we made major progress in the fields of establishing not only the expert committees, which will play a supportive role in future Assembly-discussions, but also in establishing the first real, neutral international court, which will deal with future tensions and conflicts, that are submitted to them. We finally have everything, that is needed for our world-wide institution to work effectively and make a difference in the world. In the next speakership elections, we will not only vote on a new speaker, but we will also have votes connected to the committees and to the IC.

Momentarily there are also talks about an international cooperation of member nation’s police forces and I am sure, we will also get one or two more possible resolutions on our table to discuss and vote on soon.

To all my successors: Please work hard, that the WF continues to thrive after my term. It deserved it and shall not become a victim of insignificance. And since we can only do this together, be assured, I am always here to help.

Yours sincerely,

Christian Strunk
Speaker of the Assembly

Strunk wants to attack Kirchmann

A few days ago Christian Strunk announced he will no longer be the ambassador of GI-Land at the World Forum as of Monday, 6 July 2020. He will get replaced by Helene Meise, who was his right hand up until now.

Anyhow the political career of two-time WF-speaker Strunk is not over with this yet, because he plans on going back into domestic politics. After being a member of the Gianlucian parliament from 2005 to 2017 already, he wants to get elected into the Königspalast once again, but this time he further aims to hold a more powerful position.
In a statement to the tabloid Das Auge he revealed, he wants to campaign for the chancellery. This is an open attack to incumbent chancellor Kirchmann as all observers calculated with him being re-elected by the party for being the chancellery candidate in next year's election. With Strunk throwing his candidacy into the ring, this race might not be fully decided yet and might also attract more politicians to try and get this valuable position, that would most likely lead to being the most powerful man (or woman) of GI-Land right after the King and Leader.

"The case is clear: The SLP has united itself with the SDP and the PPG. The Social Liberals together with the Social Democrats and the youthful pirate-politics-ideology. This means the party needs a leader uniting its old and new members, the old and new ideas, someone, who chooses the right words and chooses them wisely. I'm not sure, if the current leadership of the party is fit for that task", Strunk explained his candidacy.

The Social Liberals will probably announce their chancellery candidate between November 2020 and January 2021, until then the former WF-speaker hopes "Kirchmann and I will have strong competition in this race".

Debated pet protection law passes the Königspalast

Cats like her shall get more rights as of 1 December 2020

Chancellor Kirchmann announced it already: The governing coalition is not finished with governing yet. Today the so called "Law for securing good living situations for pets", or colloquially the "pet protection law", passed the parliament with a small majority. The law is one step on the way of making animal rights constitutional rights - something the coalition parties couldn't fully agree on yet.

"We are happy, our partners also saw the need of regulating this area in a fight against animal abuse and overcrowding animal shelters", said vice-chancellor Sanddorn to the press after the sitting of the parliament.

The new law defines minimum requirements for individuals to meet before they may own a pet. Those requirements include financial stability for the pet's needs and a test on whether a potential owner knows, how to handle their potential pet. Also all new pets need to be registered as of 1 December 2020. Animal abuse may result in fines and taking away pets from their owners. Families not abusing their animals, but not meeting the minimum requirements defined by the law, which started owning their pet before 1 December 2020 may keep their family member. Exceptional rules also exist for service animals.

"It's outrageous, this law passed", argues Triton von Atlantis, KPHA's vice-president of the Königspalast. "The state intervenes into the private life of innocent families by having them register any pet-like creature they might own. Also it's not clear, how the executive shall make clear, individuals don't abuse the animals. Will an animal police knock on the front door regularly? Will neighbours and friends get encouraged to spy on each other? To be frank, I - along with my entire fraction - don't think, this law was in any way necessary."

LGI's leader Lara Yt has different arguments: "While we also take animal rights and protection seriously, I find it highly concerning to effectively ban people from owning pets, because they are too poor. Owning and caring for an animal has superb effects on the mental health of people, decreasing loneliness, learning to become more outgoing, battling against trust issues - now a woman with a small pension or a single-father household can't afford those positive effects anymore, leaving those people, that are already poor statistically, in the rain once again."

SLP also had voices expressing concerns about this new law, which resulted in the near 50/50-split of the fraction in the vote on the new law.

The "pet protection law" has only one more hurdle to master now: the Federal Council.

Press conference on attack in Fabris

Like announced earlier, Gianluca IV held a press conference shortly before midnight on the incident in Fabris.
It was revealed, the police forces, 30 women and men - half of which belonging to the domestic secret service "NKG" -, were on a mission to arrest four players of the RIM team after the game has ended in a loss for them. The reason for that being, that those four suspects are accused of being war criminals and thus were supposed to be brought in front of the International Court.

While resistance was expected, it was seemingly unexpected most members of the RIM squad have smuggled weapons with them, which they started to use on the police women and men as soon as they wanted to arrest the alleged criminals. Out of the 30 officers, 6 were injured, 4 of them heavily. One heavily injured police officer perished upon arriving at the nearby hospital.

The leader is talking about this attack as a tragic event for the families and friends of the officers as well as for the world, which was not getting freed of a handful of war criminals tonight and probably questions the security measures during the ongoing FWC-tournament right now. "No foreigner was hurt or in danger, the supposed bystanders, which got attacked too, were part of the NKG and with that, part of the mission. I hearby, once again, guarantee the safety of everyone in GI-Land."

According to information of the foreign ministry, the local security forces think, the team might have already been able to leave GI-Land. Still, until this is 100% confirmed by the NKG, all flights to territories of the IFF, including Reizen Province, were annulled. The game, which should have taken place in Fabris today, Tekarai vs Sedunn, will be played in Südatlantis instead.

Parliamentary unity and another electoral reform

Not even 24 hours have passed since the World Forum representative of GI-Land, Helene Meise, was able to message the ministry of foreign affairs, the chancellor, the King and Leader, and the parliament the breakthrough, which was made in the WF-Assembly in Grovne yesterday night.
With a bigger majority than expected, the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons has passed, and with that yet another Gianlucian initiative to work towards peace and stability on the globe we call our home.

[Image: ?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.pinimg.com%2Foriginal...f=1&nofb=1]
Nuclear bombs like the one shown above will soon belong into the history books in GI-Land

Naturally when the members of the Königspalast sat together today in the morning, not all politicians were sharing this viewpoint. Especially the conservative KPHA advertised to keep the nuclear arsenal in the future, referring to threats to global security like Ryccia, Izaakia and the Bailtem Union.
"We are selling ourselves to the evils of this world. This treaty is treacherous and has the potential to make history as the treaty, which cremates and buries the Atlantic and Gianlucian peoples!", said a MP from Lindau.
Generally speaking this viewpoint was not popular to many others. Visibly in the end the ratification of the treaty and the decision to finally destruct all Gianlucian nuclear weapons and stop all aggressive nuclear programs was approved by the entirety of the parliament, except from the KPHA-fraction: 594 votes in favour, 56 votes against the proposed bill by the governing coalition, which "only" holds 399 seats in the parliament.

Another proposal, which was not met well by the fractions of the high house, was the coalition's suggestion to undergo another electoral reform before the "election year" 2021, where all three state parliaments as well as the new Königspalast will be voted upon. The premise is simple: We can and should keep the voting system (PMMP), but we need lesser constituencies. Currently one constituency serves around 42 thousand people, a way too small number in comparison to other countries.
"Also having many MPs automatically means, having to pay their salaries. At the moment each MP gets a salary of 10 thousand Tacks [~11,800 TSP-$] plus several bonuses like driving costs or costs for keeping an office with employees in the constituency - each month. Just taking the basic salary, we are already at yearly costs of 78 million Tacks [~92 million TSP-$] for this one parliament. With a reform, we could cut these costs by a quarter or even at half", reasons Moritz Strabinger (PPG).

Parts of the Social Democrats bemoan this capitalistic view as well as members from the KPHA: "We have one of the most down-to-earth parliaments of Pacifica, with a right amount of MPs, so any citizen can actually feel their representation", says a SDP-MP from a constituency near Osttor. More conservative-leaning members argue differently: "As one can repeat over and over again: Never change a running system. Also the 650-member-mark holds tradition and was used even before the incorporation of Atlantis already. So didn't we more or less have a decrease in the number of MPs with that back in 2011?".

[Image: ?u=http%3A%2F%2Fhungarianspectrum.org%2F...f=1&nofb=1]
As full as it can be - Parliaments like that can be seen worldwide, but GI-Land talks about a reduction of MPs in theirs

Momentarily there are four proposals for a reduction of the parliament's size in discussion: a reduction from 650 to either 500, 450, 400 or even just 350 MPs. One can certainly be excited, how the talks between each invdividual party will pan out and whether a compromise can be reached.

Comment: GI-Land needs to have a spine

Yesterday was finally the day, where all involved parties have announced, the Reizen Civil War, which cost so many lives, has finally ended.
Reizen, the IFF, Transsuneria and Sedunn are now calling for foreign aid to help build up the nations and territories stronger than they were before. The Kingdom of Izaakia was one of the first nations to guarantee support for these nations, which should make us worried.

Of course Chancellor Kirchmann, foreign minister Sanddorn and our King and Leader are all on their way to Reizen, the IFF and Transsuneria respectively to negotiate support deals with the local governments, but there were no words spoken out by any of these parties against Izaakian involvement in the conflict, just like we kept our mouths mostly shut, when Bruuma was joining the Reizen theatre, fortunately cooperating with the allies later down the line.
The question is: Why do we keep our mouths shut against those unjust regimes, which are only known for being provocative actors on the global stage?

The Kingdom of Izaakia has bombed Valoran facilities without a declaration of war, they annexed two territories in Bailtem without any justification and now they want to clean up their image by helping our brother nation Transsuneria? And we just let them do that?
What comes next? Another "friendship treaty" like we have one with the VPRB? Our government needs some spine and defend democracy and justice in Pacifica. They need to have hard stances against regimes like the one in Izaakia or Bruuma with no tactical alliances against alleged threats like the BU or Ryccia. This would give us a stronger position on the international stage and would make it finally a necessity, that countries come to GI-Land to figure out solutions to their problems, instead of ignoring any Gianlucian call for diplomacy and rather going to Sedunn or going to war over everything.

Let us finally take a position and let us be the powerhouse, we are striving to be.
