The Treecuu Way
#101

Convenient enemy? The Venterrans appeared to be stubborn, militaristic and likely had a rather ruthless attitude towards its own military. The strategy being employed by Committee for the Expansion of the Empire after the unfortunate launch of the Aryyt't probe was based on a narrative where the Treecuu were the victims of foreign aggression and subversion. An outcome where the Star Empire gained an enemy far away would be considered a success, and bolster the support for the Committee. Likewise, managing to persuade the Venterrans of the Treecuu narrative by letting them conduct an investigation on Yim III would be considered an equal success.

"This 'uncharted territory' is Treecuu space, forcing your way through would of course be an invasion. The way I see it, there is only one way your deep space exploration fleet can accomplish its mission. If it cooperates with the Treecuu authorities, it will be able to conduct its investigation. If not, well, there will not be an investigation at all..."

The Commander could be heard laughing as he began to remove his mask. The mask hissing audibly, revealing a humanoid face. "I find your declaration of a part of space as your own to be quite amusing. We hadn't expected the possibility of Xenos believing in the archaic forms of borders... You have already made clear that our investigation will be viewed with hostility. Regardless we have our orders... But you still have a chance to make your case with our superiors..."

"You will find that your way with borders is the... oddity here. Anyway, I look forward to discussing our differences with your superiors, I am sure we can resolve this issue swiftly."

"Quite... We have arrived..." The Commander said as a door on the commander's left hissed open revealing a dimly lit room with a large crescent moon shaped table and a desk within the circle. The Commander stiffened to attention after ushering the emissary in as thirteen holograms of various alien species began to phase in, the aliens seating themselves from the outside of the table working their way to the center, their features obscured by their suit of battle armor. At the center of the table an unmasked humanoid with similar features to the Fleet Commander finally phased in and gestured towards the desk as he said, " At ease commander, and welcome, Emissary..." The Commander saluted and stood at attention, the door hissing shut behind him cutting off the emissary from the outside world. "Please have a seat, we have much to discuss..." said the unmasked hologram.

Tiro's dark robes, in combination with the darkness made it almost look like her head floated freely in the air as she walked over to the chair. She adjusted her hood so that it rested symmetrically on her shoulders, then she answered the hologram.

"So it would seem, yes. According to my training as a diplomat, I should start by introducing myself and offer some of the usual pleasantries, to start building trust and a common ground to stand on, but two things make me skip all that. You have ships on course for Treecuu space, and should they breach our well defined borders, no generic greeting would prevent an armed conflict. Also, you do not seem like that kind of people who appreciate platitudes. Let us try and prevent war before anything else."

The Hologram appears to nod, "Of course, We are somewhat aware of the situation Emissary..." the figure pushed a button which displayed a recording of the Aryyt't distress call on a loop before pausing at the explosion on the second play through. "While we failed to acquire the original probe, we were able to record a copy of its content before the probe vanished. Our preliminary findings required that the initial discoverer enter unexplored territory to determine the truth of these claims and ascertain why your people allegedly embarked on an invasion. While they did so we had our Xenoscholars and technicians analyze the message. It will still be a few days before the fleet arrives at the destination for its investigation, so We (he gestured to the other members) would like for you to explain your species actions. We will of course answer any questions you have about our motives or decision to send a scouting party to the system...”

"Thank you for clarifying your intentions. Now, let me shed some light on the Aryyt't situation.

Much of the message from the probe is based on real events, however, it is a manipulation of facts. The probe was indeed launched from the Aryyt't homeworld, but not by the official government, called the Plane-Wide Council, but by a religious extremist group that opposed the government's decision to become a protectorate of the Treecuu Star Empire, which was an offer we made to protect them from aggression from our neighbours to the west. The extremists detonated anti-matter devices that took out both the Aryyt't fighter forces and our diplomatic emissaries. They have now started a civil war against the legitimate Aryyt't government, likely with support by the ANF. We have been asked to help them restore peace on their planet and have committed peacekeeping troops."
