[OOC] 2021 Pacifican Youth Olympiad in Zersbach
#31

To all roleplayers,

Regarding the sport scoring system for sports ineligible for round-robin (without a tournament bracket), the systems are as follows.

All will roll this 20-sided dice. For your reference and ease of comprehension, examples will be shown along the way.
Below is a roll of 10 countries and their initial numbers.
  1. 16 = 3rd
  2. 8 = 5th
  3. 8 = 5th
  4. 4 = 7th
  5. 9 = 4th
  6. 2 = 8th
  7. 4 = 7th
  8. 7 = 6th
  9. 18 = 1st
  10. 17 = 2nd
The 9th country will immediately win gold medal, followed by silver by the 10th country and bronze by the 1st country.
The 5th country will be in 4th place. The 2nd and 3rd country will tie in 5th place with no tiebreaker. The 8th country will be in 6th, while the 7th and 4th country will tie 7th place. The 6th country will be in last place. That is, without streak multipliers.

The following is with streak multipliers.
  1. 16 - 5 = 11 (0 multiplier) = 4th
  2. 8 = 6th
  3. 8 + 5 = 12 (0 multiplier) = 3rd (+1 multiplier)
  4. 4 = 8th
  5. 9 = 5th
  6. 2 = 9th (-1 multiplier)
  7. 4 = 8th
  8. 7= 7th
  9. 18 = 1st (+1 multiplier)
  10. 17 = 2nd (+1 multiplier)
This is the same graph, with a difference where the 1st country has a -5 malus while the third country has a +5 malus.
The top three countries will have +1 bonuses while the last country will have a -1 malus.

If there are multiple winning countries, if a sport requires solely one winner, these countries will roll dices. They will be allocated accordingly.

There are other special systems, however, particularly in the modern pentathlon and triathlon systems.

Per segment, the normal no-round-robin system will apply. However, the point system will apply differently.
For say example 7 countries who don't incur a draw, and drawn in numerical order. The 1st country will win 7 points and so on and so forth.
These points will be added together in the finals to determine who will win.

If there is any feedback or any error, please notify me immediately, preferably on the South Pacific roleplay discord server.

Here's a cheer to your athletes!

How about some world record mechanism, if it doesn't add too much complexity?

To all roleplayers,

Regarding this enquiry about the world record mechanism, as per recommendation from @Hammerstar,

EDIT: Since I am a lazy fuck who does not want to type things out while trying to finish the calendar, here's another snip.

To all roleplayers,

This is regarding a proposal to install a doping mechanism.
Currently with the in-character rolls, there is no event where this mechanism is applicable.

It's simple, really. If a nation has a +5 multiplier and rolls 20, their athlete is disqualified for that particular sport.
To prevent a situation where nearly everyone gets disqualified, only one nation is to be disqualified per sport.

I look forward to your feedback!

While no nation IRL is entirely doping-free, most nations take serious action against it, and it would be unfair if a nation gets too many doping cases, unless the player of that nation agrees to have a lax attitude towards doping. Perhaps there could be other disqualifying things, like crossing into the wrong track while running, or using an illegal move in basketball?

To all roleplayers,

I would like to edit a few of the scoring protocols aforementioned in this thread.

THE DRAW CLAUSE: The clause splits into two. Previous rolls will not be rerolled.

DRAW CLAUSE 1 (NORMAL DRAW): Same as before, if there is a tie for first place, these nations will reroll. Whoever gets a higher roll will win the first place while the lower rolls will be allocated accordingly. If they tie, they redo again accordingly.

DRAW CLAUSE 2 (ABSURDITY DRAW): This will only apply to tournaments without round robin.
From the next roll onwards, if there are any ties in the top three (also known as the medal bracket) where it would seem unrealistic or absurd (i.e. +3 nations in one medal), these nations will also reroll in accordance to the previous clause's mechanism. There are rolls meeting criteria, however previous rolls will not be rerolled.

I would like to also introduce a new clause.

THE DISQUALIFICATION CLAUSE: If a nation rolls 20 and has a +5 multiplier, their athlete will be disqualified from that particular sport.
To prevent the total annihilation of too many athletes and to prevent unrealism/absurdity, only one nation is allowed to be disqualified from a particular sport.

The disqualified nation will be contacted via Discord or forum private messages should their Discord account be unknown or unreachable to provide grounds to determine the canon disqualification cause. Should they be unreachable, the cause will be determined without consent.

Please provide feedback on these clauses as they will be used next roll.

Here's another cheer for good luck from where your athletes are!

Greetings!

I have written this post to notify all that Independent Olympiad Athletes and Refugee Olympiad Athletes are free for everyone to roleplay as, even if you have never registered for the Youth Olympiad.

That's it. Good luck!

What happened to Zersbach 2021 Youth Olympiad?

To all roleplayers,

I apologize for not releasing further scores for the youth Olympiad.
My life have been at it's lowest point very recently and examinations are upcoming.
Therefore, I took a break temporarily.

However, the Youth Olympiad will be back soon, but I don't have a date.
My only promise is that it will end no later than 31 December 2021.
I am working on drafts for further scores when possible and will post when I have the time or when the draft is complete.

I do require some help managing the spreadsheet as well as it is the bottleneck of the Youth Olympiad and therefore rarely managed.
It is simple to help, really. When I post the scores, please comment on particular boxes corresponding to the scores.
I will come to update it irregularly but I cannot guarantee it. The irregularity of the maintenance of the spreadsheet is one of the reasons of my demotivation. However, it is okay if nobody helps or you don't help.

I'll try my best but I can't guarantee nearly anything, the only thing I can guarantee about this spreadsheet is that at least I will update it when a day in the Youth Olympiad ends.

Once again, I apologize and hope you understand.

To all roleplayers,

if you are on the TSP Roleplay Discord server already, you would have known that Shang Ye has left the roleplay scene and his NationStates nation ceased to exist. His plot is essentially down the gutter and will almost definitely be removed from the Map of the South Pacific, which could prevent Shang Ye from participating further in the Youth Olympiad as normal. I say 'as normal' as there are choices we can go from here, one of them keeping Shang Ye as a symbolic nation.

As I do not want to delay anything and maintain normalcy, I've decided to continue with the name and trigramme for Shang Ye in future rolls for the time being, however there is also the opportunity to retcon Shang Ye's participation entirely, as there is nothing detrimental to the roleplay that Shang Ye is involved in to the best of my knowledge. However, this could break the roleplay entirely as the tournament brackets have already been drawn.

There is an opportunity to stuff a new roleplayer in, essentially retconning all Shang Ye victories into their victories, which would require that the new roleplayer also participate in the same sports that Shang Ye registered for as to not break the roleplay entirely. This option, I feel it would be better in an arrangement like this should continuing Shang Ye's participation symbolically not be feasible.

A placeholder would also seem feasible, however it would seem very odd as the roleplay is not all about results, or at least what I have planned. Therefore, listing Shang Ye as for say, 'Placeholder 1' seems undesirable and therefore not going to be an option here.

I would like to put these aforementioned two options to a vote as I feel that there is a sense of dispute on both two options that it would not be viable for me to directly decide the fate of Shang Ye.
  1. Continue Shang Ye's participation symbolically with little disruption
  2. Re-open registration out-of-canon to replace Shang Ye in-canon, new nation chosen through nomination
You may argue and vote in the thread. Polling will close and votes will be counted the next Saturday, 2 October 2021, 4:00am UTC. You may suggest other ideas and I'll consider them as well. You may also vote for ideas not on this list.

By the way, the cycling team time trials will be posted soon, I swear.
