Discussion - RP for TSP IC History

Oooh tsunami. Geologically speaking, tsunamis can arise on the edges of the South Pacific, not in its center (the South Pacific Ocean). See tectonic map (which reminds me, we we still need names for everything.) Wink

Although, tech levels would have to be considered too, I think. B&N (history here, though it's badly outdated) is a realist modern-tech nation, so futuristic nations do not exist on its plane of existence. Or something like that. Tounge

Linguistic maps, I'm sure we can make those. Wink

Your maps are great and I think there are many areas of application for them Smile
Maybe we could make some historical maps showing an ice age, agricultural development, eras with high water levels and so on. In my factbook on NS (http://www.nationstates.net/nation=sedun.../id=215517) a flood devastating mainland Sedunn for ages is hinted. The factbook is not nearly finished (will it ever be?), but it's supposed to be like a Wikipedia article describing a modern nation, much like B&N.

About the names. Let's make an ultimatum, we try to name them in a thread here, or you may name them by your own preferences if you like. Tounge

Really sorry for not working on this more, I've been rather inactive due to school. I may be able to drag a few old friends into this, back from my days when I was heavily involved in Historical RP in P2TM, which may mean that this project will rely significantly less on me.

Let me know if I can do something.

This thing is inactive, right?

It is sometimes hard to keep a single RP thread active, and actually succeeding with this whole project seems very hard, even though there surely would be a few very enthusiastic and active people.

What do you, the TSP RPers, think about completing a project of this magnitude? A lost cause?

Why not create an alternate universe and call it TSP -3000, or 1000 BC or something? That way it can be Rp'd and still technically canon.

Each person should be able to write RP history for their own country.

That'd be a bit too much for me, since my writing will go off topic so much.

Since the historical project is revived, I think we need a place to discuss and plan how to proceed; this is the place.

Here are a few points I brought up earlier:

1. Basics of the planet of TSP
  •    Are there other continents (regions) on our planet not displayed on the regional map?
  •    How do we handle unclaimed plots and non-RP nations on the regional map?
2. What are we allowed to refer to/use from the real world, like religions, languages, animals etc.?
3. What do we want to RP? Wars, scientific advances, migration, geological disasters?
4. What level of detail should be used? Character, nation/tribe, or a global perspective (as in adding pieces of information sequentially and individually)?
5. Technological level and realism. What about nations with aliens and non-humans etc?
6. Adding/removing pieces of information. There will be nations coming and going, gaining relevance and loosing it. What is the "flexibility" of the history records?
7. Who would manage collecting the pieces and writing a coherent document?

My thoughts:

1. I see two alternatives. The TSP planet only has the continents shown on the regional map and everything originates from these continents, or we allow for some "foggy" continents from where things come that we may not agree upon (like origin of man, political system, the alphabet, "evil" colonial powers).

Regarding unclaimed plots and non-RP nations on the regional map, when I RP I think of them as either passive nations or simply as non-existing landmasses.

2. I believe it was settled awhile ago (can't find the thread right now) that no references to nations or people from the real world are allowed (they are non-existing in TSP). But we do not have to re-invent everything, just rename it and/or decide what the TSP origin is. Some distant continents may be used for this purpose.

3. Maybe role-playing historical events is too time-consuming. I believe we simply should try to combine our separate histories. This could maybe be complemented through discussions departing from precise questions like "How did humans come to the South Pacific?" as ProfessorHenn already has done (here).

4. Anything necessary to combine the separate histories and to answer such questions mentioned above.

5. Sedunn and many other nations in TSP exist in a realist modern-tech world. If people want, history could be branched off to be complemented with fantasy and sci-fi things.

6. Not much to do about it. Nations that leave, but still are important to the common history, could be placed in one of these "foggy" continents.

7. Anyone interested.
