Re-establishment of Trust Post the OBT Incident
#1

Dear TSPers,

Since the events of OBT and then the recent actions taken by Belschaft in reneging his apologies for attempting to illegally stack TSP elections as well as his become a security risk to the region, I would like to discuss how to heal our region.

Many of us, including me, are paranoid and maybe even slightly angry whether at the people involved or those who seem to imply that such actions are all part of a game and should not be treated seriously.  I do play this game but as many others I play it with a mixture of silly and seriousness.  That is I love TSP and want to see it flourish and welcome new people with open arms.

I've never been a fan of perma bans (unless a player crosses into real life attack as Xoriet outlined in her recent article). I'm also not a fan of denying people citizenship based on nebulous reasons. That road leads to darkness and the kind of thing that some of us have been working hard to fight against.

I remember very clearly when I was new to this region, some of the treatment I went through and even was on the receiving end of as a relatively new delegate. I would never wish that upon anyone else.

So how do we move forward as a region that doesn't live in a state of paranoia and fear?

One proposal I thought of was something that we have discussed before.

{edited after discussion on IRC, thanks to people especially Asta who helped with this}

Those involved in or supporting OBT should complete a period of service in the FA program (2 terms) and make no political plays (applying for positions and such) before they too can get voting rights restored. If you look at my original post regarding Belschaft's behavior, this is what I asked of him too.

I'm not a fan of eternal punishments and such and I also believe in second chances and the power of forgiveness. However, I also think that sometimes forgiveness has to be earned and this is the way that I think I personally would feel comfortable moving forward.

Please let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions or thoughts.

Sorry, Escade. I can tell that this is with good intentions, but it will greatly diminish voting rights.

Fully against(Sorry).

Ryciaa, does the fact that its only for a term, sway you at all? Do you have any other suggestions or proposals?

It just seems unfair. I agree that we should not fall into dispair, but spending 3-4 months on the Fellowship Programme just to earn voting rights just seems unfair to me. Mandatory work(if you wanna vote) is not good for anybody. Plus, many people will lose their right to vote because they were not on the Fellowship Programme. Even you, Escade, will lose your rights to vote, or so I see it.

Also, can you spell Ryccia right? It bugs me for some reason.

It's only for new and recent applicants and people involved in OBT.

Although I suppose it applying to everyone including me would be funny.

That's the problem(or one of the problems). If people want to vote and get involved in choosing their leaders, they'll need to have voting rights. Even I wouldn't work for that period of time for just voting rights.

This seems a little like forced collective work(what communism and/or socialism do), only that is not mandatory, if you are not going to vote.

Okay, this... just no.

The voting rights issues aside, your entire idea is depend on four months of active service with am organization who's main body was for a ministry that did virtually nothing for four months.
