Socialism versus Capitalism
#11

If you can buy it, you buy it. Plus, what about the other companies? Like little shops, hardware stores, toy stores, farmers with land, etc.

I rather have capitalism any day of the week. And some already used their mass fortune for others. Bill Gates is one of them.

At least in capitalism, you have hope. Hope of getting your family out of the poorness. And with a lot of effort, you might just do it. But with socialism, we are all poor, except the government.

We are all poor.

Empathy.

The needs of the many are greater than the needs of the few.

I don't want to live in a society that I have no hope on succeding. I don't want to live in a society that I have no property whatsoever. I don't want to live in a society on where I have to share. No way. And I don't want to live in a society where a farmer gets the same salary as a doctor or lawyer, or scientist. No.

Oh, so a worker who puts food on the table is less important than the guy defending a criminal in court?

Are you for equality?

Not that. Im not discriminating. But I'll put you an example of what I mean:

Let's say that a lazy janitor works in a socialist society. But a hardworking farmer or carpenter or whatever works in that same society. Then they get the same salary.

Is that fair?

And let's face it: in this world a farmer gets paid less than a doctor or lawyer, but that does not mean that the farmer is less important. Both contribute to society.

I can't see why one should stubbornly stick to either.

As Punchwood said, a nation needs to tend to those in need. Also, I believe everybody should get the same chance in life, regardless of how wealthy the parents. Therefore public schools and a publicly funded health care is needed, and so on. That means taxes and maybe cutting back on private choices related to these. But there is no need to go all the way, having a state telling people where to live and work, or what dessert to eat.

Consumer products and where to travel, like Ryccia says, should be none of the government's concern. And I agree, the higher the education, the higher the salary should be. But it is a shame that some really important professions do not pay more, like a teacher, police officer etc. Shortly, as much personal liberties as long as other people do not have to suffer when it can be helped. Also, in some areas, corporations cannot always be trusted to care for their employees, customers or the environment. Therefore we need laws and regulations.
