Socialism versus Capitalism
#21

Corporatocracy is a term used as an economic and political system controlled by corporations and/or corporate interests.

Thanks Wikipedia.

I feel that our world is being driven towards this. That's why I'm a socialist.

Actually, the film and music industry sometimes show this.

I believe that socialism is a better policy than capitalism, especially some variety of democratic socialism that would allow the people to control the economy to some extent.
However, too much of the US is dead set against it for it to ever be implemented on Earth as a majority of Earth's nations until the current US-EU dominated Western society collapses.

"The great object of the political economy of every country is to increase the riches and power of that country." -Adam Smith, Founding Father of Capitalism

I bet when he came up with that, he never thought how far it would be taken.

That's communism not socialism. There is a difference. Plus you can very much succeed in a socialist country. For example the UK when under Tony Blair's rule. The economy grew and grew and grew, everyone was getting richer. Then thanks to American Capitalism we had the resection Sad

The USA is built on capitalism. In the 19th century, immigrants from across the world flocked to the US for the promise of a better life, that they themselves would forge. The national theme of the later 19th century was Manifest Destiny: the idea that independent-thinking and enterprising Americans could and would spread across the continent. The theme of the later 20th century was "communism is scary!", which is not the best way to promote a socialist state.
In short, the USA is so deeply capitalist that it's doomed to remain that way until it falls apart.

Although, as my history teacher pointed out, socialism/communism has been practiced on US land, by the Native Americans residing there.

I just don't like the government owning everything. I don't like to share what I work to others. For me, sharing my work with the society is ridiculous. I work for myself, not for someone else.

And Punch, how is that possible?

Straight from Wikipedia:
During his time as prime minister, Blair raised taxes; introduced a National Minimum Wage and some new employment rights (while keeping Margaret Thatcher's anti-trade union legislation ); introduced significant constitutional reforms; promoted new rights for gay people in the Civil Partnership Act 2004; and signed treaties integrating Britain more closely with the EU. He introduced substantial market-based reforms in the education and health sectors; introduced student tuition fees; sought to reduce certain categories of welfare payments, and introduced tough anti-terrorism and identity card legislation. Under Blair's government the amount of new legislation increased which attracted criticism. Blair increased police powers by adding to the number of arrestable offences, compulsory DNA recording and the use of dispersal orders.

He raised taxes, introduced tuition fees, and more things. How?

It should be noted what you're describing is Totalitarianism. Communism is the government owning the corporations. Socialism is, well, Socialism. I can't define it right now, in a bit of trouble.

He introduced a minimum wage he was amazing. When Tony Blair was elected as PM it was incredible, the economy was great under his control. Taxes aren't a bad thing I mean we could all pay our taxes because we had more money in our pockets plus we could have great public services.

Also the government owning everything is also communist and as Henn said Totalitarianism. I think you need to look up socialism.

Defining the debate in terms of Socialism vs. Capitalism is a mistake, as socialism is a system of redistributing wealth within a market economy. It doesn't preclude the private ownership of property or the accumulation of capital.

The best way to describe socialism would be the management of the economy to share prosperity and redistribute wealth. Regulation, in effect, rather than control.
