So... can you make a full code for both the original debate thread of law and an amendment? Where does the law initials go?
Also (assuming this is what you mean):
A.LPA.B.1 (1st amendment) and A.LPA.B (Original debate thread) have the small problem that you can't search for a specific original debate thread because when you type in "A.LPA.B" you get all the amendments.
But what happens when an original debate thread (for a new law) fails?
Say, the Legislator Procedure act had a forerunner by the same name that failed. In my system, you could do something like:
A.LPA.B.1.F (Original one that failed)
A.LPA.B.2.P (Second bill that passed)
A.LPA.1.P (First amendment that passed)
And I know that looks like a lot of letters, but to be honest, it is much more clear than the current amendment titles which are basically whatever you want them to be.

So, just to start off with the process, I've made a draft.
Quote:Law Standards Act
...
3. Amendments, Bills and Repeals
(1) The standard format for an ammendment title will be to note:
a. Which body of the government is proposing the ammendment
b. Which law is being ammended
c. The number of the proposed ammendment.
d. The status of the ammendment
(2) This will be show in a simple format: A.LLL.1.D. A means "Assembly", LLL are the initials of the law, 1 means the number of the proposed ammendment, and "D" means "Discussion" which is the current status of the ammendment. These codes can be replaced with the following:
a. "A" can be replaced with *
b. "LLL" can be replaced with the first letters of each word of the laws, generally all the letters in capitals.
c. "1" is the number of the proposed ammendment and can be replaced with "B.1" if it is a bill. "1" refers to the number of the times a bill by that name has been proposed.
d. "D" meaning discussion and/or draft can be replaced with "P" for passed and "F" for failed.
(3) If two laws have the same initials, the chair can decide to change one of the initials, and must note this on the law page and index.
**
...
*Can someone fill this in because I don't know enough about the TSP to know what goes here
** The rest of the sections are renumbered accordingly.
I think this is clear enough, although someone might be able to merge (1) and (2) into a mega section

I believe the only source of confusion in the forums are that there is no central agenda or system in which legislators can be notified or plan for discussions or votes that are to be taken. Possibly, we could have someone prepare a calendar or something similar to prevent legislators from being confused or overwhelmed.

This thread may be of some interest to you @ guava. It is a weekly summary of all the Assembly's activities and current discussions.
I agree with Prarie, as most RL legislatures keep it simple in terms of numbering bills. Often, it would only include the initial(s) of the body and whatever the number they choose to give the bill. That depends on different legislatures, since some may choose to allocate a certain range of numbers to a specific type of bill (ex: 1-100 is for Private Member's Bills; 100-1000 for Government Bills). However, for legislatures like the US Congress, it is much simpler. You just have to number the bills based on the order of introduction. So for example, if I introduce the Llama Act and you introduce the Lampshade Act after me, the former would be A.1 and the latter, A.2.
With regards to Jebediah's proposal, I firstly would like to commend him for his work and contributions. I have read the proposal thoroughly and decided to make a edited version of it:
Quote:Law Standards Act
An Act to define the standard of all laws in the Coalition of The South Pacific
...
2. Formatting of Bills and Amendments
(1) The code for a bill must contain the following:
a. The initial of the Assembly.
b. A number according to its position in the order of introduction of bills.
(2) The order of introduction shall be restarted at the end of every month.
(2) (3) Titles should be bolded and centered.
(3) (3) Subtitles should be italicized and centered.
(3) (4) The following should be observed for articles, sections, and sub-sections:
a. Articles should be numbered and bolded.
b. Sections should be numbered with parentheses, unless there is only one section without any sub-sections.
c. Sub-sections should be lettered with lowercase letters.
(4) (5) Addendums should be numbered and at the bottom of all bills, regardless of where the referenced material is in the bill, and placed in a quote box.
I acknowledge that the language in this amendment is not the best so please feel free to add any suggestions.

To be honest, if it didn't have the initials of the law... well it wouldn't be A.LLL.79, it would be A.7900. At this point, its an arbitrary number which basically has no use, and it would make it impossible to search titles for amendments to a specific law.
(03-25-2019, 10:02 AM)Bzerneleg Wrote: The order of introduction shall be restarted at the end of every month.
But then how do you tell what month the amendment is from? If you are going to go with that, then at least do something like:
Quote:(1) The code for a bill must contain the following:
a. The initial of the Assembly.
b. The initals of the law being ammended.
c. The number of the month and last two numbers of the year it was introduced, seperated by a comma and in that order.
d. A number according to its position in the order of introduction of bills.e. A word describing the status of the ammendment, such as "Draft", "Passed" or "Failed"
So now, it would be A.LLL.03,19.6, and is in order from largest denomination to smallest. If you want to know all the bills for LLL in May 2019, you do A.LLL.05,19 in the search box. If you just want to search for a specific time, you can use search filters. The last 2 things are just used to differentiate different bills and see if they passed or did not just by looking at it.

I still think yall over-complicating this...
Bill/Amendment/Treaty - 3 letter code for the law/bill - date (mmyy)
If we're going to do this, lets make it as simple as possible. And, sticking with the Legislative Procedure Act...
A.LPA.0319
Or, a new Treaty... "The Llama Lampshade Accord - a Treaty with South Pacific"
T.LLA.0319
Rarely do we propose multiple amendments to the same law in the same month, but we could add a .1 after the date if it happens.

This sounds good-though I would want to change it just a bit. For example-
The Llama Act (bill)-AB4.1
Assembly Bill 4 (month of April) 1 (First bill introduced in April)
Or the Traverse Accords, a treaty with Europe-AT4.1 (Assembly Treaty 4 (month of April) 1 (first Treaty introduced to the Assembly in April.
B or T could be replaced with A (amendment) D (discussion) R (repeal) C (confirmation of a Justice) and more if needed.
Additionally, we could make subforums in the Assembly subforum for years. So if a legislator would search AA6.9, but wanted it to only be from 2020, they could go to the 2020 subforum and search there for AA6.9.

I got rid of the "A" for Assembly, since the posts will all be in the Assembly archives...
Though, as I think of it, it probably makes more sense to do it ...
