[Discussion] Future map claiming and updating
#11

Hi everybody,
I'll sum up my thoughts on the matter:
  • I agree with the idea of more community management on content, also because I wouldn't be able to volunteer to take the mantle of the cartographer and thus would be unfair to ask anyone else to.
  • Still, I think there should be at least a "supervisor" with a last word on the map to avoid people messing it up (not necessarily in bad faith).
  • I would have upheld the "one plot per nation" rule along with the "max. 3 plots per player", but at this point I think the ship has sailed. So it would be unfair to not allow new players to have "3-pieces nations" such as some of us do.
  • I agree instead with removing RPG-inactive nations from the map, even when they don't CTE, after a set amount of time.
  • The best solution I see regading making room for new players is to include another landmass in the map. Frankly, I don't think the biome and climate have been applied by many existing nations anyway.
  • To avoid having the new continent without any "veteran" player, we can have those who wishes it move there.

So, my current thinking is this:
- Transfer to Google Slides (this will be a lot of work, but a perfect way for future managers to familiarise themselves with the process!). I'd be willing to work on this too.
- Have multiple mangers under one supervisor or something like that (I'm thinking I could be the supervisor, being responsible for the base maps, plot borders and other stuff that don't require frequent updating, since I have the files, and they are rather massive and not easily shared and worked with)
- Open up another continent for claiming (that map could be another slide in the Google Slides presentation)
- New players can only claim one plot until having been on the map for two months (I'm open to other amounts too).

Whatever we decide on regarding claiming rules, we can easily change in the future if needed. The map management system however is something we need to be pretty sure about.

Unless someone protests, I think we have a plan then.

Who would be willing to help update the maps?

As for the proposed map management system, I'm content already.

Principally I wouldn't mind helping, however I'd like the current WF-Speaker term to end first. Would be too many duties otherwise and need to get used to Google Slides first too.

As someone who is not at all involved in RP, and doesn't even have a spot on the map anymore (I'm waiting for Tin the Free to CTE so I can steal my old spot back Tounge ), I like the ideas presented but also would like to throw my two cents in here.

In short, my idea actually merges several ideas already listed above.

1) The current map is made into a one nation/member/claim/plot/etc. per forum account that any active person on the forum (with a nation in the region) can own and possess for non-RP purposes. When a player CTE's, their claim/plot/etc. will also CTE unless they served in government in some capacity, or otherwise made some notable contribution to the region, in which case their claim will remain until the plots are filled again.

My rationale for that idea is that even when I interact in my capacity as a legislator, I somewhat felt that my nation's representative was going to Government Island to conduct business when I looked at the map, even though I was not actually engaging in RP.

2) A new landmass is opened up for those that wish to RP, and the rules of RP and claiming will apply there as well. In this case, those that want to RP will have the main nation that every nation gets on the mainland and an RP nation on the new landmass. The RP plots can have the waiting period requirement for 2nd-3rd+ plots if desired.

This idea simply allows those that want to engage in RP their own space to do so without worrying about plots that are not in use for RP purposes.

In short, this is basically what was said above, so feel free to ignore it. Tounge I'll let y'all get back to RPing without my random noises.

This is awkward... but I'm not planning on making some of my RPs go poof/non-canon any time soon.

And that is the problem with this idea... this map was made for RP. If this current map is turned into a place for non-RP purposes, a lot of nations/plot will be moved then all of the RPers would have to worldbuild all of their nations again and a lot of RP thread would be either non-canon or inconsistent. A reset of the entire RP community per se.

Also, Government Island isn't connected with the government of TSP. ICly it was just named that way. This canon is not connected to any of TSP's places. (Although this map may be referenced in some TSP's places and vise versa but both canons aren't connected)

Note: I'm fine with having inactive nations on the map because some of them do have important roles in our canon/want to Worldbuild by themselves. So I'm kinda interested in the idea of having a new RP landmass for inactive nations and/or non RPers but that comes with its own problems.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO PUT HERE

What CTE is?

Btw it is clearly said on the rule that all nation who have no active NS account or not a part of TSP will be removed but instead someone like Ubesii still exist on map although they have no NS account anymore. Heck even their last seen is around October-November 2020 so please check on everyone's account to ensure their activity. More land would be wasted by this if you not take some action.

There are special rules for countries, which were important to the canon history of the region. Those countries are not removed, no matter what.

Well that's why the map keeps full. We need a new plot for the incoming update so it will not be full.

If want open new land / continent, just for new country, old country who already has plot in old maps, dont move their country to new maps. It will be easier to cartographer if want to create new land or continent
