Recall of Prefessor Henn
#31

I don't support a recall but this will impact my vote in the election.

I don't think this is illegal or shows gross negligence as MoA, but this leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I've noticed a VERY increasing trend over the last few years with engaging people in private to lobby them to do something, and I think it's a cultural shift that degrades the fabric of an open democracy.

I have been approached via lobbying efforts more times in the last two years than all of the rest of my time in TSP, and 90% of the time I find it extremely distasteful. People don't approach me to discuss issues any more, they are more interested in getting me to change my vote after the fact, or blindly support some sort of reform without seemly even considering my opinion. I find all of the actions terribly distasteful.

Because of Henns actions, I think we were legitimately robbed of a foreign policy debate that could have been had in public, with participation from the entire region. Now a lot of election talk and and issues will be overshadowed by petty personal differences instead of the actual issues in TSP.

How will it be overshadowed? The debate can still occur, and that would be something I would be happy to be involved in.

There might be debate, but it was already tainted by your attempts to get someone to run against Glen, simply because you disagree with his policies. It is entirely within your rights to disagree with him. That is democracy, after all. But to engage in private talks and job offers simply because you want to keep him out of the Cabinet is unbecoming. How would you feel if he engaged in that kind of behaviour to keep you out?

Fair point.

My apologies Glen.

I'm very very tired of people trying to keep certain people out through underhanded means instead of actually offering an alternative that inspires and excites people.

I'm also tired of people who conflate issues. The issue at present here is a government member, planning to run for government in July (as Delegate), and offering people sinecure's or positions based on them helping keep another member out of government.

The issue of campaigning is a separate one, and again if you're okay with your friends doing it but not the opposition to your friends then I really don't care what you have to say about it.

Still, this reminds me to be active in the upcoming elections and take time out of life to speak my mind\engage in the democratic process.

If you're responding to what I am saying, I don't think the issue of campaigning in private is a separate issue at all.  It is part of this culture of scheming that has been developing in The South Pacific, and I think it's important to talk about it.  And I have consistently held this opinion in my entire time in The South Pacific.  If you want to dismiss my critiques, feel free, but it is hardly because I am inconsistent on this issue.  I even hold myself to the same standard.  Everyone who I have disagreed, knows that I disagree with them and why I disagree with them.  And I gave them a chance to fairly, and publicly, respond to me.

Private campaigning has NOT been people going around and promoting their message and offering if people have questions.  It's been people pestering people to change their votes, and in some cases even been presenting misinformation (or at least extremely bias information) that the other person doesn't have a chance to respond to.  It's the very antithesis of an open and public debate.

Considering that most of the scheming (since I joined the region and before it actually considering what I experience early on) involved people trying to rid the world..I mean TSP..of GR or whoever the target of the month\etc is and bringing in foreign people who don't know about or care about TSP, I'm still going to say that campaigning in the last election was pretty clear: 1. Wolf was exactly as described on the box and 2. Wolf and his allies attempted to get GR out through nefarious means including bringing the outsider agenda to work in the region.

I'm pretty blunt about what I think or believe as is renowned. Asking people to consider or re-consider their votes is different from you know vote stacking, glorifying vote stacking and excusing people who engage in such depending on whether they align with your views or not.

And guess who the first two people who introduced me and my lovely Kris to "campaigning through intimidation and fear mongering" were? Hint: Both were recalled within the last year.

Or political cronyism and all the other ills that plague NS and TSP and real world politics. If you didn't take a stance when your "buddy" was doing it or made excuses for it then honestly, it undercuts any "image of neutrality" that you are planning for.

Back to the issue at hand, Henn.

I actually don't even know what to say anymore.

If you want to take what I said about Henn to heart, and make this mostly about you, I will engage. I was going to ignore it, but you raise a lot of points I want to hit on.

I wasn't specifically just talking about you when you engaged in private campaigning, I was actually mostly talking about Henn, but you were privately campaigning and I think that contributes to the problem. I agree it's not one for one the same, but it is a tactic that specifically avoids open and public debate. In fact, it is an attempt to avoid any debate at all, because you want to talk about the other person when they can't even respond to what you are saying.

I think that makes our democracy weaker, not stronger.

I am also not going to stand for this bullshit tactic you have used over and over to try to rope me in with Belshaft. He was never a friend of mine. I did play NS with him for years, and actually believe it or not, for a long time he contributed a lot of good things to this region and I did have a good working relationship with him. But over the years reason was replaced by paranoia with him, and it started even before you joined the region. And sadly got worse and worse as time went on.

I have publicly denounced his actions over and over again. I supported his recall both with words and with vote. I publicly have said I didn't support anything he did, and believed he should be tried for his crimes. I have even repeatedly responded in good faith to your constant accusations that I am some how a supporter of him, by saying I didn't support his actions.

You have confused my desire for handling potential criminal actions through the justice system instead of a system that indefinitely suspends the right of citizenship with support of Bels.

My actions are in VERY stark contrast to Belshafts. The only time I ever tried to remove someone from the region, outside of Sedge and Milo, was Unibot, and I did that through a giant conversation in the assembly, followed by filing charges against him in the courts. And a few years later, I even got told off by Hile, had my administrator rights removed, and basically personally attacked by others in the region because I publicly didn't support Unibot being banned without due process. I have also said multiple times, that I think GR makes this region better, even though I disagree with him on a lot of issues, because he acts the exact same way I do when it comes to expressing how he feels about something. He says what he believes openly, and publicly and runs on his vision and his service. Even if he was never a member of the cabinet, just his words and HOW he participates contributes to the vision of the region I believe in. Where TSP is a place filled of open and honest democratic debate, and how we move forwards is decided by vote. It is honestly the high praise I can give to someone.

I'm appalled to see such negative backroom campaigning going on. However, I don't see anything that breaks the Charter or Code of Laws here so I'm personally not inclined to support a recall given how close we are to elections anyway.

That being said I'm very disappointed in Henn over this and it will influence my vote.

The way it'll probably happen is that people will bicker right up until elections begin anyway.
