Survey – Serving in the Military
#1

(OOC: Given RL events occurring right now, I've been motivated to create this survey.)

Here is the question:

Are people allowed to serve in your country's military regardless of:
  • Gender and identity
  • Marital status
  • National origin
  • Physical and mental disability
  • Political affiliation
  • Race
  • Religion
  • Sexual orientation
  • Wealth
Answer for Qvait and Winston Island:
The Royal Defense Forces of Valkyria allows people to serve regardless of gender, gender identity, marital status, national origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, and wealth. People with physical and/or mental disabilities are accepted on a case-by-case basis. People are allowed to join the military between the ages of 17 and 40, but must be able to pass basic training. People must be between 145 and 205 cm tall to be able to join the military, but some occupations have different height requirements. People who do not hold Valkyrian citizenship are allowed to serve for a minimum of two years who, upon completion, shall be granted Valkyrian citizenship.

Sovonor allows all citizens aged 18+ to enlist in the military, though their specific assignment may vary depending on the results of the physical, psychological and aptitude tests. In those cases when an applicant is deemed unfit for service, only due to physical or psychological limitations, arrangements are made for transfers to a suitable government or civil institution, with the consent of the applicant.

Similar standards apply for citizens aged 17, when entering into the mandatory civil service.

The Bundesarmee allows all citizens as of 18 years of age to serve in the military (after passing a physcial and mental exam they need to pass).
Factors like gender, gender identity, marital status, race, religion, sexual orientation and wealth don't play a role.

People with physical or mental disabilities may not always be part of the armed forces or medical teams (case-by-case decision), but are often able to serve in the administration.
National origin doesn't influence the decision, if a citizen can serve in the army or not, except the citizen hasn't had at least high-school education in GI-Land.
Citizens born abroad, that haven't attended one of the Gianlucian high-school types are not allowed to serve in the army.
Political affiliation is a private topic. Nonetheless a soldier can get suspended from the army (also from the army's administration), if the political standpoints endanger the army and/or GI-Land as a whole (Political/Religious extremists would be an example for people endangering the army/GI-Land as a whole).
This decision can only be made by independent courts though.
Also every soldier not willing to swear the oath on GI-Land, its leader, its constitution and its people may not be allowed to serve in the army's armed forces or medical teams (administration doesn't have to swear an oath).

Anyone can serve in the AAF provided they are at least 16 years old, and are of relatively sound mind. There are myriad non combat roles for the underage, minorly disabled, and those who cannot pass combat readiness physicals.

In Rebeltopia, some form of civil service - including but not limited to military service - is required between the ages of 18 and 20.

The only hard factors of military service is age (18) and, at times of peace, a hard cap of enlisted (not career) soldiers.

There are other "soft" factors, like physical and mental disabilities. These factors are taken on a case-by-case basis - most of the time, there are positions where these people can serve.

Sedunn has what is called mandatory defence and protection service which is either military or civilian. Every Sedunnic citizen turning 17 is required to take entrance assessment tests (that may be postponed up to the age of 20 under special circumstances). Based on the results, different service alternatives are offered, of which one has choose one. While many still are conscripted (after having turned 18), the yearly number of conscripts has been greatly reduced since after the Great War, more due to modernisation requiring less personnel than an actual disarmament.

The requirements summarised:
  • Sedunnic citizen
  • Minimum age 18
  • Aptitude (physical and psychological)
  • No severe criminal record

In Pax Dracon, joining the Legions is not mandatory, but it is often considered a tremendous honor.  Culturally, it is seen as putting the safety and well-being of the Imperium and its people before oneself and willing to submit to the highest standards of discipline and excellence.  In both times of peace and war, they function as soldiers and a police force.

The only requirements are being 17 years of age or older, meeting minimum standards of fitness, and being a citizen of the Imperium.  Sex, province of origin, and religion do not matter.

In Volaworand service is allowed regardless of Gender and identity, Marital status, Political affiliation, Race, Religion, Sexual orientation, Wealth

restrictions include:
National origin: no restriction on national origion per se, however service members must be citizens or have their citizenship application in progress prior to application to join the force
Physical and mental disability:  no specific restrictions, subject to the physical requirements tests and mental and physical health checks.  Unsuitable Trainee's have passed application screening, and often "wash out" during the initial 3 month basic training, however on a case by case basis and, if the commanding officer recommends, they are allowed to serve as reservists or

The Ranger force (used for remote and purely internal domestic monitoring) has lower standards, and are subject to the same application process but receive 12 days of training per year, resulting in a wider variety of abilities within this quasi-reserve force.
