[IC] Reizen Civil War
#1

As the Moon cast its pale light over Reizen, Captain Eko Onoda of the Reizen Independence Movement Army cautiously peered over his foxhole and looked with his binoculars at the enemy encampment, several hundred meters away from the village where he and his men regrouped after a failed chemical assault.

Through the limited moonlight he began to reassess the situation: the mortars and air strikes had created craters in no mans land that they could exploit in another raid, but overall the enemy trenches were silent, that occasional orange glow of a lamp lit soldier darting through the trenches. He could see the flashes and occasional silhouette of the enemy artillery pieces as they belted out 155mm shells into the distance.

The Frost Imperialists hadn’t been able to recover their dead or wounded, but neither could they, and mangled corpses littered the field and partially submerged in the dirt that served as no man’s land. The cries of the wounded muffled by the effects of the dissipating chemicals. He knew that by morning the stench of the dead would be unbearable.

The Captain’s radio crackled to life as one of his men spoke, “Captain, your orders sir?” The captain sighed as he spoke into the radio “We are not ready to push through the enemy trenches… fortify our positions and expand our lines eastwards to harass their flank. Create additional machine gun nests and move our snipers west into the jungle.” He then put down his binoculars, “We may be here for a while…”

In the northern most airfield, the smell of cheap ethanol and cigarette smoke floods the air. In the air is crisp and cool, perfect flying weather. The small Agootian airforce of Great War planes are ready to take off for Reizen. General Buckwheat speaks;

"Gentlemen, we may not be a great nation, but we are damn well good enough to fight for what is right. We are going to get out there, kick those Imperialist bastards where it hurts! Let's help the RIM! But remember, we are only helping the RIM because they are much better equipped to free Reizen, but our true ally is the WPR. We must let socialism thrive! Now let's do this..."

After that speech, the airmen gave a cheer and strapped themselves in. Soon after, one by one, the roar of propeller air craft filled the skies, headed for Reizen.

Elsewhere, the scientists have finished the new biological weapon, more powerful than most. The government has commissioned it to be sent to the RIM, but they need RIM to carry to Reizen, as they do not have the means.

On the coast, the small, outdated Agootian navy sails to Reizen with supplies and some backup forces to help.

Agot is now completely involved, but with two agendas. Can they pull it off?

"Milady."
"Yes Darach?" asked Caitlin.
"Our informants are correct, the supposed sample is somewhere near Puerto Pollo."
"Going to Valkyria isnt a complete waste."
"Seems so, I have sent a team to investigate."
".....and of the other unearthed fact?"
"Its true, every last bit of it."
"Darach, you know it isnt our concern."
"Our agendas would be ruined ma'am. If they are to come to fruitition."
[Image: images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcQ-ZFHZfHTH37B4Prgs9...uLaXyQc-V8]
"It seems Doctor Kane was correct in hiring his friend."
"She is a good epidemiologist, and currently holding the authority for researching the disease."
"We need a strike team if we are to rid the deposits."
"No, Darach. A clandestine force, we cant mobilize the legion for something like this."
"Shall I call for the doctor then?"
"Cito Darach, Cito."

"She's awake!"
"Monitor her vitals, keep her on a steady stream of electrolytes and antibiotics. She lost quite a blood from her surgery. Maintain a post op diet and clear her for duty when you see it fit."
"Thank you so much for your help Doctor."
"Your chancellor was at risk, by orders of your boss I am to oblige."
"We were lucky to have you currently standing by in the hospital when Chancellor Harrison was rushed to surgery."
"I guess time was nice to us, now allow me to retrieve my items. Please stabilize her accordingly."

The Valkyrian surgeon left the locker room in the on call. Leaving Doctor Kane to prepare his stuff. It is one thing for The Peony to be so worried of her friend, it is another thing for doctor Lim to call him and assist the surgery. It was a simple.procedure, but it wasnt easy getting through the red tape without being caught.

Its something about being an assassin he guess, an assassin in employ of Milady Caitlin Swann no doubt. Things like this isnt something new. So when he changed his clothes, a cell rang. Only one number can only come through that phone.

[Image: images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcSubK0OLum75BE_F9Ttl...xBxdpNuzt2]
"Kane."
"Doctor, it appears the sample we look for is in Puerto Pollo."
"Shall I depart for it then."
"Im afraid we need you on something more urgent. Im sure youre aware of the weaponization?"
"Nonsense, you could not weaponize such a silly product......Unless."
"Im sure Doctor D.Valentine has unearthed the halucinogenic property of Catra Rye. It would be impossible to massively weaponize it unless you bred a new strand."
"Which would take a collosal time to do."
"As you know we have her to forsee the political discussions concerning it. But we need a team to investigate."
"To Agot then?"
"We have information that a stockpile is available in Reizen. Please confirm the information for us, and destroy it if necessary."
"Yes Milady."
"And doctor...No witnesses."

The phone was cut off.

"Oh boy, here I go killing again." Doctor Kane thought, and walked out of the hospital. That is how he remembered the events that transpired the day. As of now, he looks at the coast of Reizen on the small Agot craft. Presumably with supplies. Surveying the entire proceeding hidden.

President Donald Blythe and other high-ranking officials, while on a trip to Valkyria, have set up a meeting through video teleconference with his top advisors at home on the topic of the Reizen Civil War, noting the gravity of the event.

PRESIDENT BLYTHE: Ladies and gentlemen, please have a seat.

Everyone sat down on their chairs.

PRESIDENT BLYTHE: May I start by welcoming everyone to the meeting. The matter on the table is the Reizen Civil War. Can I get first get some opinions?

SECRETARY IRVING: Throughout our country's history, we have been staunchly anti-communist. Especially when the midterms are coming up in 9 days, we don't want to look weak. It is both our strategic and political interest that we stand against the RIM and WPR.

SECRETARY RASMUSSEN: I think we couldn't agree more with what Joe said. We ought to be tough to those forces. I will work on gathering regional support for the Imperial Frost Federation so we have in our hands the diplomatic weapon.

SECRETARY IRVING: If we're gonna go forward with military involvement, I suggest we work out things first with the Ryccians and the Frost and then we decide on a military strategy that's best for us, will secure Frost victory and most cost-efficient.

CHANCELLOR CARNEGIE: Mr. President, we're not gonna spend f***ing 350 billion like what you did last time with the Qhichwa earthquake. That's a sh*t ton of money! And you know that. This time let's limit to 100 billion in 2018. We're having a big surplus but we're not gonna waste too much money.

Everyone laughed except for the President who seemed quite embarassed.

CHIEF OF THE DEFENSE STAFF SORENSON: How about we ask one of our allies to rent a port for our ships and aircrafts for easier transportation of troops and equipments? If that's possible, we could use Sedunn's Deriess Island. We estimate the distance from the island to central Reizen to be around 200km, which is quite short, considering we're on the other side of the region.

PRESIDENT BLYTHE: Well, that's possible, in fact David can tell our Ambassador in Sedunn to pass on the message to their government and wait for their reply.

SECRETARY RASMUSSEN: I can do that right after this.

VICE PRESIDENT UNDERWOOD: Let's not be too excited. If we got this good, it's a big foreign policy win. Our country's reputation will bolster. But if we lose any house of Parliament, the Liberals ain't gonna let any of this sh*t happening. They're not gonna give us money to go to war in Reizen so we gotta work hard securing support both here and abroad. I suggest this: Generals, you should meet with the Frost and Ryccian military officials to figure out what we're gonna do there and how. Then you report back to us the resources you need. David, you take care of the diplomatic part, go get more countries behind Frost and go lobby them to make financial and military contributions in the Reizen War. The more resources, the better. Charles, prepare a budget report on the Bzerne military involvement in the Reizen War for submission to the Cabinet and the Parliament. Secretary Irving, oversee the military strategy formulation process and prepare options available for us to choose, like renting land for military bases. Is everything all good?

PRESIDENT BLYTHE: I guess it is. It's a good start today. Me and VP Underwood will have some time planning and considering our next steps. I guess we all have a lot of things to do. I'll see you soon.

In a small, undisclosed lab, the Catra Rye Disease has been successfully turned into a biological weapon, the Catra Death. Colonel Mustardgas walks down the damp and dimmly lighted hallway to the lab. Several soliders in brown aviator jackets accompany him.

"Dear Grandmaw, it reeks in here! Roland and Noland, is it it done?"

"Yes sir! It is 100% percent effective."- Roland

"Good because we need it out of here by tonight and on a truck to Reizen. I need you then to industrialize this and make it readily available, and might give us the upper hand. And by the way...
What does it actually do?"

"Well Colonel, it causes hallucinations, and then it strips your ability to breath by destroying the lungs. After a while, your skin melts off. You should expect death in five minutes at the least."-Noldand

"Perfect. Boys, take it away."

The soliders carefully grab the hazardous crate, filled with aerosols, spray bombs, liquids, and pure samples. They load it up into a ratty bomber that has been claimed by Chuck-Ray to only contain relief items. The plane takes off, protected by its designation as a relief vehicle.

The Agot Air Force as been flying around for a while, but had to touch down again. This cycle will be repeated until fighting breaks out. The navy stops in front of the Imperial Blockade, waiting for passage.

A second video teleconference took place, but this time with the President, his chief of staff, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Vice President and the Director of National Intelligence.

PRESIDENT BLYTHE: Good morning everyone.

EVERYONE ELSE: Good morning, Mr. President.

PRESIDENT BLYTHE: So how is everything going on?

CHIEF OF STAFF STAMPER: Well, we have some new developments. The Agots developed their own biological weapon from the Catra Rye disease and the Sedunners responded. They allowed us but only if Frost approves our military actions and that they would guard our base.

PRESIDENT BLYTHE: Well at least they let us have a base there. On the question of the Agot bio weapon, what are your opinions?

DIRECTOR SCHALLER: Your press secretary made a statement today about that. We'll keep an eye on the Agots. What we can do is track the flow of Catra Death, where it is going, where did it originate, and when our military gets there, we will stop it from entering Reizen.

SECRETARY RASMUSSEN: I prepared measures we can take against Agot. We can go convince our allies to impose economic sanctions or even embargoes against the country's major exports. Halting trade with them is also an option so there won't be imports coming in Agot, noting that it's a small and poor country.

CHANCELLOR CARNEGIE: Maybe they are dependent on agriculture. If that is the case, we block the water flow from the sea, 213's an unclaimed plot. We can pretty much execute our plan there with little to no resistance.

VICE PRESIDENT UNDERWOOD: We'll try to squeeze as much lemon juice out of the lemon as possible. After that we throw 'em in the trash.

SECRETARY IRVING: If Agot uses biological weapon in Reizen or against our allies, how do we respond?

SECRETARY RASMUSSEN: We don't want to make it too big at first. Start off with a diplomatic action, we recall our diplomats back home, send theirs back. Convince others to do so too. Once we get a general consensus that Agot did a lot of harm, we can go on to bigger things.

VICE PRESIDENT UNDERWOOD: War in Agot is a possibility, but I don't see involving in too many wars manageable. But we can engage in amphibious and clandestine activities.. you know what I mean.

DIRECTOR SCHALLER: That is possible actually. I'll go back and have a talk with the intelligence agencies and we'll come up with a proposal on this.

PRESIDENT BLYTHE: That's good. Now how about moving resources to Reizen.

SECRETARY IRVING: We will move 10,000 troops, 60 aircrafts, 26 ships to Deriess Island of Sedunn first. And then once we get our military strategy sorted out, we begin our attacks.

VICE PRESIDENT UNDERWOOD: I'll handle Parliament stuff. I'll go talk with the Parliamentary leaders to brief them what's going on and maintain their support for the Reizen Civil War. I'll make sure the appropriation bills get passed so we get the money needed for this. Most importantly, I'll do the lobbying so they'd pass the Parliamentary Authorization for the Use of Military Force bill ASAP so we can do what we want with our military in Reizen.

6th Fleet, off the coast of Reizen
Admiral Akagi Yamamoto sighed as he surveyed the horizon. The fleet monitoring the Agot fleet through radar and satellite imagery. 'When will these countries learn that they can't pass through the Blockade without express governmental permission.' he thought as the crew sent another warning to the Agot fleet to turn back to Agot. Shaking his head, the Admiral sighed as he said, "inform the fleet to take action when the Agot Fleet breaches the red line."

901st Battalion, Shibuki, Reizen
Major Yukina Kusanagi yawned as she read the briefing material. She was tired of the reporters condemning her unilateral expulsion of a group of traitors who stylized themselves as the Reizen Democratic Coalition. After all it was they who reached out to the Ryccians and instigated the collapse of the fragile truce brokered by the Sedunners between the Frosts, Communists and the RDC... reading the materials, she grabbed a red pen striking things out that were suicidal, and fool hardy. The Major was regarded in an eccentric light as she passed over promotions for her outstanding service in the Serevan war, and blitzkrieg tactics used to turn the tide in the Civil War. Despite being a Major, she was treated as an equal to the other Colonels who regarded her as a war hero. After finishing her edits of the mission, she had passed the revised mission briefing to an aide who delivered to the Shibuki Commander.

WPR Patrol

Lt. Amari stood guard at a checkpoint at a village a few kilometers west of Seranuma when she saw an unfamiliar convoy roll up. Raising her AK-74 she demanded the driver show identification and roll down the window. The driver complied, showing a familiar face. "Quite the stickler for rules eh Leftenant?" asked the driver. "Yes, Comrade, we've been getting reports of spies and terrorists trying to access our lines and harm the workers." the Lieutenant replied. "So what's the score?" Lt. Amari asked. "As you can see a RIM supply truck that our brothers intercepted on the way to the front. Besides the Bruuman arms we now have access to some of the RIM's more advanced MANPADS from the Kinjishi Armory. Seranuma isn't a manufacturing city like Kinjishi, but hopefully we can progress our industrial capabilities to push the RIM and those imperialists to a standstill to renegotiate terms in our favor." "Indeed its quite unfortunate the Imperialists couldn't wait to back stab us and try to invite the face of Imperialism itself upon our fair lands. In any case, you may proceed back to base Comrade." replied Amari as the driver smiled, saluted and drove off into the distance.

The sound of yet another rusty truck faded as the truck made its way down the dusty road. Before the dust it had stirred up settled, Hip-hop slowly pulled back his left sleeve to check the time.

11:32

Dark blue, one white replacement door on the right side. It was the third time that particular truck had passed in that direction in the last two days. He had always been good at remembering stuff, which had been a valuable skill in the service.

Hip-hop carefully grabbed the anti-reflection treated binoculars and looked over the meadow in front of him. On the other side, in the grove, he could see the tree that he knew was near the spot Sport had chosen. He couldn't see him, but he knew he was there. He adjusted the position of his elbows slightly so he could turn the binoculars to observe what must had been some kind of shopping mall before the war. Now it served the RIM as a small logistics base. Mostly trucks, but all kinds of vehicles really, passed it daily to deliver or collect fuel, ammunition and food.

The soldiers were busy taking care of the delivery the blue truck had left for them. Petrol drums and green crates for 7.62 mm. And bingo. Those wooden boxes usually contained Sarin grenades. They were hastily loaded onto a green truck, and Hip-hop knew exactly to where it would go.

The two Sedunners were too few to take on the base, but that wasn't their mission either.

Hip-hop picked up small flashlight. Two flashes towards Sport's position was the predetermined signal that Hip-hop would exfiltrate to a safehouse from where he could contact Command without exposing his observation post, should the RIM have electronic warfare units nearby.

Hip-hop slowly crawled out of his nest, deeper into the forest.

Reizen Democratic Coalition HQ, Zett Island

Coalition President Arata Minshu and other representatives have gathered in an undisclosed office to figure out their next plans.

President Minshu: My fellow countrymen, we have been struck with series of blows by our supposed friends and enemies. The Empire has turned its back on us after we sought help from the international community.

Commander Bly: Indeed, after we reached out to Ryccia the Communists overreacted, and pulled out of the pact. Shortly afterwards a rogue Frost Major took it upon herself to expel us from the city of Shibuki.
Commander Wilx: If we lose our foothold into the mainland how can we liberate the province from the RIM Barbarians and Communists?
Foreign Minister Reive: How? I don’t know, but we must double down on our internationalist approach and seek out more countries. The RIM has somehow wooed Agot, but if we can convince Bzerneleg, Huawan, Sedunn, Valkyria, Ryccia and other countries to support us instead of the Empire, then we have a shot.

Commander Wilx: But what about the Frost Blockade?

Commander Orn: It’s powerful and covers vast swaths of the Western seas, but it’s not impregnable. The WPR had used the neutral country to the East to smuggle supplies and weapons to continue their struggle, and there are rumors that some countries possess planes that can fly just above the ceiling of the Frost SAMS allowing special forces to infiltrate the Province.

President Minshu: Good, at least there is a way to get them into the mainland… Now onto our main point who should we reach out to first? Harmakmis and Gordista? Bzerneleg? Ryccia again?

Commander Orn: I would recommend Bzerneleg. They are a democratic country and while allegedly allied with the Empire, aren’t a monolith. Furthermore, we can drive a wedge between the two countries if we formally invite Bzerneleg and the international community forcing the Empire to ultimately choose between greater cooperation with the world or be an isolated pariah

President Minshu: Excellent, at least we’ll have the political leverage if this succeeds… Minister Reive, please dispatch one of your envoys. It will be some time before the Empire responds to the Bzerneleg so time is of the essence.

RIM Strategic HQ

Lt. Col. Ideo Ryuk listened carefully to the deliberations of the RIM High Command as he received his mission report. The colonel opened the report and was surprised by its contents. He was to be dispatched to Agot via air and secure a shipment of a new weapon that their friends developed. The nature of this gift is unknown but a group of obsolete Agot planes have been patrolling just outside the Frost kill zone giving them plenty of time to flee. “I wonder what the agotians will be like” said the colonel aloud to himself as he walked through the halls.
