July 2020 Speaker of the Assembly Election
#1

Dear ambassadors,

five months since my election has passed and this means, we will start with the new election to the Speaker of the Assembly.
According to Resolution 1, there will be the nomination process open for the next seven days (until 28th June 2020, 9 pm GMT+1), in which any member can nominate any nation for the position of speaker. One can not nominate themselves.
Until a new speaker is elected, the incumbent speaker will continue serving as acting speaker (Christian Strunk).

Next to this process, we will have more processes open as of this election.

1) According to Resolution 1a each member and observer of the WF may decide, in which committees they want to participate. More information on what committees are existing you can find here. As a host country you are automatically placed in the committee you're hosting. In future speakership elections nations may not only decide, in which committees to join, but also which they would like to leave. A nation can be in as many committees as they prefer.
The "committee-application" process will take place during nomination week. Later the officers of each committee will get elected too.
Nations, who do not apply for committees in that week can't take part in the upcoming officer-elections and are barred from applying for committees until after the entire speakership elections are over.

2) According to Resolution 1b each member nation may appoint a justice to the IC, which needs approval by the Assembly. This approval can only be given during the speakership elections and needs to get refreshed every year (you can see the exact wording here). During the week of nominations you may also nominate your justice and give background information on them, so the Assembly is able to vote on them.
Nations, who do not appoint a justice now, will have to wait until the next speaker-elections to do so!

3) According to the results of the vote on Resolution 10, the WF has founded the IACO. Please tell us until the end of the speakership elections, on whether your country wants to participate in that organisation or not.

Let's summarise the decisions you you can make now (you can do any, all or none of these. Read about consequences of your decision above):

1) Nominate a nation/several nations to be Speaker of the Assembly
2) Naming the committees your nation shall participate in
3) Appoint one justice to the IC and give (short) background information on them, why the Assembly should/should not approve of them

4) Decide whether you want to partake in IACO or not.

The new speaker will get introduced by me to how the speakership position has changed and will get an overview on how future speakership elections will work.

The first phase of this year's second speakership election has started now. Good luck to everyone!
Signed
Gianluca IV

1) Anserisa would like to nominate the nations of FiHami and Sedunn to the position of Speaker of the Assembly.

2) Anserisa will also be establishing missions to the following committees:

Committee for Climate and Environment
Committee for Economy
Committee for Science and Education

3) Anserisa will be nominating Hormisdaso Mortium, the actual Principal Supreme Judge of Anserisa since 2014. In Anserisa, Mortium has a record of decisions in favour of democracy and protection of freedoms. Especially is interpretation of the Declaration of Rights has been considered one of the most liberal since the adoption of the declaration in 1995, especially going with judgments in favour of the principles behind the adoption of the declaration instead of interpretation based solely on the texts. Critics would say that he is not as neutral as he should be, nevertheless he blamed the government in a judgment in 2019 when the government wanted to proceed to the extension of the Princia Geneva-Brantavilla International Airport without any prior consultation. Before being appointed as Principal Supreme Judge, Mortium has been a Supreme Judge since 2004.

4) Anserisa will not be part in the ICAO for the moment.

The Federal Republic of GI-Land would like to do the following:

1) We would like to nominate Pax Dracon to be the next Speaker.

2) GI-Land is the host of the Committee for Science and Education. Next to that we would like to join the Committees for Climate and Environment, Economy, and International Law.

3) For the IC we nominate a former judge at the Atlantic constitutional court: Risa Terry. She is 54 years old and has a white vest. After her time at the constitutional court ended in 2010, she was mostly known for commenting on foreign policy matters in some of GI-Land's biggest newspapers and for fighting against the assumed oppression of Atlantics in GI-Land.
While having the opinion, Atlantis should get independent from GI-Land again, she is not always on the side of the underdog or independence movements. The self-determination of people is very important to her, but she acknowledges, that sometimes full independence is not possible for different reasons.
When dealing with criminals she was always showing a hard hand, however she also took it very seriously to have a fair trial not only for the victim, but also the accused.
While commenting on political subjects and of course having her standpoints, she never joined or advocated for any party and didn't seem to really want to achieve a certain political goal in her life.
This nomination is mainly driven by incumbent Speaker Christian Strunk, who gets along very well with Ms. Terry.

4) GI-Land will join the IACO.

1) Nominate a nation/several nations to be Speaker of the Assembly

FiHami would like to nominate Sedunn and Anserisa to the position of Speaker. After having discussed this election prior with the late Ha'Coron', FiHami will respect her wishes and decline the nomination at this time due to ongoing Prime Minister elections.

2) Naming the committees your nation shall participate in

We would like to participate in the Committee for Climate and Environment.

3) Appoint one justice to the IC and give (short) background information on them, why the Assembly should/should not approve of them

We are recommending the nomination of Justice Tal Shi to the IC. Justice Shi, born in Kairos Village near Huah-Huah in 1968, escaped FiHami waters with his father, finding their way to Antarcha, where Shi studied Law and International Philosophy from the University of Antarcha, Mint Campus. He served on the criminal circuit from 1994-2015, where he moved back to FiHami to help fight the Hani Uprising diplomatically. He was selected to serve as an Elder in FiHami's House of Elders in 2019.

This nomination having been provided by the late Chief of FiHami, who had noted Shi's desire to uphold the law.

4) Decide whether you want to partake in IACO or not.

Due to current events in FiHami, the IACO had not been discussed prior, so FiHami will decline to participate in this election.

1)  North Prarie would like to nominate Anserisa, GI-Land, and Sedunn.
2) North Prarie will be sending missions to the following committees:
     Committee on Climate and Environment
     Committee on International Law
3)  North Prarie would like to nominate Eliana Power to the IC.

Eliana was born in 1977 in the city of Hayes in western North Prarie. Power grew up in poverty, living in a trailer park with her single mother. Despite this, Power persisted, being accepted into Wagner University in Stonebridge and graduating summa cum laude with a degree in law in 1999. After graduating law school, Power would work on multiple foreign affairs councils and travel abroad to document dictatorships and human rights abuses. Power is currently one of the foremost thinkers in North Prarie on human rights and international law, and worked on President Valieant's Security Council. Power is a professor at Wagner University today.

This nomination was given by President Lindon, who cited Power's willingness to work for justice for victims of oppression and discrimination around the world.

4) North Prarie would like to participate in the IACO.

While GI-Land feels honored to be nominated for the position of Speaker once again, we need to decline that offer since two consecutive terms are not allowed.

1) We are pleased and honoured by the nominations. However, we believe others should be given the chance and provide a fresh perspective. We must also prevent the there being a sensation of an "establishment" in the World Forum. Therefore, we respectfully decline the nominations. We nominate Ikoania , Anserisa, Holy Free, and the Frost Empire.

We would also like to thank the current Speaker for his great service.

2) All.

3) For the Assembly's consideration, we nominate Miks Sked. She is the current head of the Sedunnic Council for Legal Review, where she leads the work to review Sedunnic law so that it remains constitutional and adhere to international law and human rights. She has previously served in the National Arbitration Court for Commerce in Grovne, and as judge in the Ekredd Appellate Court.

4) Sedunn will partake in IACO.
