Nosabte Hobosghas reporting for The Landland Legend;
"Towering and imposing manager Brutus "Boulder" Bell has said in his statement "I am not pleased with the lads'
performance last game one bit. We were awful at the back and I will be changing the team around a good bit.
We've shown we can score which is our only saving grace."

To which I asked, "It looked to me like it was quite an even game but we got caught on the
counter one or five too many times, are you really that disappointed?" "No, not entirely, but I will be changing it up to inject some more pace. The twins really showed up tonight and I'm proud."

I would have to agree with his last point, the Everjags caught everyone's eye for all the right reasons
let's hope the rest of the squad can catch up! Hobosghas out."

Interview with Jacob "Papa Jake" Wright,  Center-Back in FiHami's Men's Team
Interview Conducted by Carolina Coast of the Ha'Hani Times Post

COAST: Thanks for having me here today, Mr. Wright.

WRIGHT: Thank you for interviewing, also feel free to call be Jake.

COAST: Sounds good Jake.  So, that first game, that was pretty fun to watch from television at home!  How did you guys feel?

WRIGHT: Well, consider that game a celebration of Ako Kilaweioni's 21st birthday.  Ako was pretty amped up, and that certainly spread to the rest of us!  And we are so grateful that Hakapa would put up such a great fight, it certainly made things that much more fun.

COAST: I bet.  Now, surprisingly, we saw a 43% decrease in views compared to last year's FWC tournament.

WRIGHT: It is definitely expected.  Remember, FiHami has been through a very short-lived war, a war for civil rights, a sinking economy, an election season, and, probably the most morale-killing, the death of our beloved Chief.  The Finixi people are exhausted, without a doubt, we need something good to happen.  And I will certainly work hard to provide some much-needed good news to Finixi people.

COAST: That is wonderful.  Now, speaking of the Chief, There is a possible relative of the late Chief in the team, correct?

WRIGHT: You're talking about Fituma?

COAST: Yes, Fituma Fi'Shi.

WRIGHT: The kid is related, yes.  It is very lucky we even have him, his mother had actually been sent on a messenger run the day prior, and came back to find the carnage of the Sami Village.  His mother is supposedly one of the daughters of the Sami Village Matriarch.  So they would be cousins.  Fituma had been in my custody for the last 5 years since his mother's death, and he wanted to play football, and here we are now.

COAST: So you guys are basically family.

WRIGHT: Oh, the entire team is just one massive family.  Myself and John are definitely more like the father figures, and the rest of them are all like brothers.  I love seeing them just love life together, and seeing how quickly they accepted Fituma into the fold after Titumo decided to pursue law instead.

COAST: That is so sweet to hear!

WRIGHT: And we all still keep contact with Titumo too, he's very much so still a brother.  Once a brother, always a brother.

COAST: Well, I will certainly keep a close eye on the games myself.  Good luck to you and your team!

WRIGHT: Thank you so much!

Group Stage
Day 4
Match Day 2
Groups A, B, E & F

GI-Land 2 - 0 Phanama
Bzerneleg 0 - 1 Tanis

Bruuma 4 - 2 Landland
Rebeltopia 0 - 1 Holy Free

Sedunn 1 - 0 Chola
Puerto Pollo 2 - 3 RIM

Huawan 3 - 6 Tekarai
Valora 0 - 0 Royaltica

"What have we seen here, Schmidty?"

"We surely have seen the first few decisions. We don't know yet, how the round of 16 will be composed exactly, but we know, that Holy Free, Sedunn, the RIM and Tekarai will advance. And we also know, that Landland, Puerto Pollo, Chola and Huawan are out of the tournament.

Finally we, the hosts, have gained a victory over Phanama. Kristiansen and Szalok played good together to score the first goal over the left wing, while the dribbling of Ostermann in the 72nd minute prepared an egoistic, yet beautiful goal. Tanis manifested themselves as 1st of the group right now, when they surprisingly managed to get a win against Bzerneleg. Be prepared for the final match day, because group A will get shaken up again!

Bruuma finally connects the dots too and we have also seen the other finalist from last time winning for the first time here. Landland certainly put up a fight, but they might have mixed too much. It was enough mixing to be out of the tournament early and that's pretty sad, because the coach from them was right, the twins were fun to watch and they promised more than the rest of the team wanted to show us. I hope, they will be more successful in 2022, if they qualify then.
Holy Free played a better game than last time in my opinion, it was much more strategic and professionally played and that earned them a top spot.

I'm scared for Sedunn, because they shiver themselves through the tournament at the moment. Sure, better play safe football and advance many times, than play beautiful football and be out early, but I'd wish they would take at least a little more risk. Today again they played good for exactly 4 minutes, then scored 1-0 and then they just switched to a defensive strategy, even substituted their main forward player in the 56th minute - that's not attractive football. But the next game is against the RIM and they will want to top the group instead of them, so I'm sure they have something up their short sleeves.
Speaking of the RIM: I don't think they deserved that win. Puerto Pollo was playing their hearts out and the draw would've been okay, but that header in the 82nd minute was just not deserved. They dragged themselves across the field like they didn't want to play, while Puerto Pollo went furious on the ball and still they snacked the win over them. This makes me a little angry, if I'm honest.

The next surprise comes with Huawan. The 2012 champions are out like they never even existed in the first place.
The coach didn't seem to have the team and their morale under control, that's how I explain that game to me, which was never really in favour of the Peocracy, which only catched up little by little before getting stomped in the 2nd half. Congratulations to Tekarai though for playing a good tournament so far.
So far Valora did this thing too and I hope, the ceasefire continues even though they only got a draw out of their game against Royaltica. They still have a chance to advance to the round of 16 after all. Even a better chance than Royaltica looking at the points. On the other hand they will need to play at least a draw against Tekarai....It's a difficult task, I'm not going to lie here."

Breaking News

Landland Head-Coach Brutus Bell has immediately had his contract terminated after a video came out of him kicking a boot into vice-captain Stephen Ester's face.
At this stage, it's unknown if Mr Ester will be bringing Mr Bell to court over the incident.

Group Stage
Day 5
Match Day 2
Groups C, D, G & H

Ubesii 3 - 0 Valkyria
Kai Fa 5 - 0 RDC

Hazelbrust 2 - 2 FiHami
Kosbareland 0 - 3 Hakapa

Snolland 3 - 1 Ikoania
Ryccia 2 - 3 Tribekistan

IFF 4 - 1 Anserisa
Transsuneria 0 - 2 Pax Dracon

"What have we seen here, Schmidty?"

"A good end to match day 2. In group C we have seen, that the clear favourites are indeed favourites winning each against their opposing underdog pretty easily.
I'm a bit sad for Valkyria not finding their connect to the top positions of the group and so being out of the tournament early.

A very attractive game was the one between Hazelbrust and FiHami. Hazelbrust has swapped their goalkeeper for this game and played with only one forward this time instead of basically three like against Kosbareland, still they maintained high pressure on their 'enemy' on the field. FiHami could hold up to that, because they really play like a family. Which they basically are according to their captain, but I just want to stress, that you can indeed see that out on the pitch. A well-deserved draw, which gives them a minor advantage over Hakapa, who knocked Kosbareland out way too easy. The problem in that game, by the way, was, Kosbareland playing over the wings, although Hakapa has relatively fast yet robust defenders out there. Maybe they hoped for two yellow cards for each defender, but that didn't happen, because overall Hakapa even played more cautiously than against FiHami, so that results in you getting knocked out of the competition and preparing the way for the 3rd to still have a chance to advance into the round of 16.

Now we get to the way more interesting groups for my taste, because the groups G and H find it difficult to decide, who shall get knocked out and who shall advance.
Just as an example, Snolland is on 1st place right now, right? But if Snolland loses high enough, let's say: 3-0, and Ikoania wins high enough, they can still get kicked out!
The last places of each group, Ryccia and Anserisa, also both still have a chance to advance, if they each win high enough, just needing to equal out their negative goal differences basically, so that will be very exciting to watch on Sunday."

"(in a joking tone) Don't you want to say something about Transsuneria?"

"(looks at him kinda annoyed)Yeah....they didn't play good....I still believe, they can do it. And like in group G, Pax Dracon is not safe yet. It all depends on the last match day, especially in the second half of the groups."

Group Stage
Day 6
Match Day 3
Groups A, B, E & F

Tanis 1 - 1 GI-Land
Bzerneleg 0 - 0 Phanama

Holy Free 4 - 3 Bruuma
Rebeltopia 2 - 1 Landland

RIM 1 - 0 Sedunn
Puerto Pollo 5 - 0 Chola

Royaltica 0 - 0 Huawan
Valora 0 - 2 Tekarai

"What have we seen here, Schmidty?"

"Group A stayed the group with the closest matches. Bzerneleg surprsingly didn't make it, since they only played 0-0 and our team sadly disappointed against Tanis. One has to like Springer though, his goalie performance was marvellous today. Normally the game could have ended with a win for Tanis also.

In group B Rebeltopia gained itself an honorary victory and Holy Free was the first team to achieve 9 points in this tournament. As a newcomer! Congratulations to them!

Sedunn will go down in history as the one-goal-scorers, because the own goal of the number 14 was in fact the only goal of the game, which once again ended 1-0. There are parodies on Stream already mocking the team a little. Anyhow, the RIM won the group with that without having put much effort into the game once again. I find that despicable, but that's what the football God wanted as it seems.

Huawan also gained a honorary point at the end. It could've ended in a victory to be honest, we had some very nice corner-kicks and the Huawanians are bigger than the Royalticans on average, still the ball just didn't want to get into that goal. Still it was a solid result for an overall disappointing team in that tournament.
Valora was not disappointing, but they also make use of playing in a weak group. How they played their games clearly showed, they are not belonging to the top teams and if they would've been in a stronger group, they wouldn't have advanced. Just look at the statistics how many fouls they needed in all games, two players are barred from the next game, because they've seen two yellow cards in those three games, that's why I think, the RIM will have an easy round of 16 game."

"Don't overdo it with your guesses though, because tomorrow we will have a thorough analysis of how right you were with your prognosis, right?"

"Yes, tomorrow is the last match day of the group stage and we'll see how professional my professional opinion was (chuckles)."

A Peonic Man was apprehended by the Gianlucan Police earlier following the hijacking of the stadium PA system in Nordtor stadium between Huawan and Royaltica for a full 10 minutes. Blasting "Go, go, blaster" a theme song for Riyoshi, a Peonic Football Anime.

The man was escorted on halftime and was to be extraditioned back to Huawan.

Group Stage
Day 7
Match Day 3
Groups C, D, G & H

RDC 6 - 2 Ubesii
Kai Fa 0 - 3 Valkyria

Hakapa 1 - 6 Hazelbrust
Kosbareland 2 - 4 FiHami

Tribekistan 1 - 0 Snolland
Ryccia 0 - 0 Ikoania

Pax Dracon 2 - 2 IFF
Transsuneria 0 - 1 Anserisa

"What have we seen here, Schmidty?"

"We have seen two groups, where the teams went totally crazy and scored so many goals - it's almost unbelievable. On the one hand we have the RDC, which literally came out of nowhere, along with Valkyria, who suddenly discovered again, they are able to play football. The strikers were scoring all those goals, they were not able to score the last two games, which led to Ubesii being kicked out albeit being a favourite.
Kai Fa had a bit more luck here since they stomped the RDC last time.

Group D ended with no surprises, Hakapa has tried to play their attractive game from last time once again, but they didn't have a chance against the Hazelbrustian defense. The last three goals were preventable, I say it as it is, but you have seen in the player's eyes, they lost their fire, when it was clear, they won't advance since FiHami was already in front again against Kosbareland. This, by the way, is the reason, why I really don't like it sometimes, when match results of a direct opponent are announced in the stadium. In doubt it demotivates a lot.

Group G ended with a surprise in my opinion. Tribekistan played quick passes and aimed shots at the Snovian goal like no other team before. It's surprising they were THAT much better than Snolland and even more surprising they didn't win higher.
About Ryccia there's not much to say, I'm happy they gained an honorary point.

Pax Dracon and the IFF had a very intense match. This was to be expected, since the empire was not supposed to fall behind the RIM and the RDC in regards of the tournament position. In the end they do fall behind, since a draw was not enough, but it was fun to watch, how they really tried anything against the Pax Dracon players.
(sighs) And Transsuneria is out. I'm very sad about this and I would almost join the bandwagon of wanting to ban the VAR from the game, but in the end having the VAR makes the game fairer and it discovered the ball was behind the goal line, so Anserisa won fair and square and one has to accept the result."

"You don't want to accept it, do you?"

"I do, but....of course I don't want to in THAT sense. Transsuneria was playing fun football, we've got some talents down there, they are not the bronze generation in my humble opinion and still they ended everything with an overall disappointing result, getting beaten by one point in the group's table by the team they dominated without mercy in the first game...I...I can't understand that. They didn't play bad, except in the second game and THAT SECOND GAME broke their neck. It's just how it is. I'm sad, I admit it."

"Alright, but just because Transsuneria is out, this doesn't mean nothing has worked like you guessed it. So let's take a look again at what you have guessed, who will advance, and who ACTUALLY advanced, shall we?

In Group A you were calling Bzerneleg and ourselves as the advancing teams..."

"Yeah, and even in retrospect I stand by that. I mean, looking at the table it was such a close call, Bzerneleg has the exact amount of points as we have, only 1 goal off from having the same goal difference as we have. Tanis was an unexpected winner of the group, so...I think, I didn't do so bad there, but yes - overall I was partly wrong, so just 1 out of 2 here (giggles)."

"Next was group B. You called Bruuma and a newcomer. That was spot-on!"

"That's right, 2/2 here, however also here: Very close call. Rebeltopia almost made it, but I said it back then and it still applies: Their golden times were way earlier, if they want to come back to the top teams, they need to work harder on themselves and have a little bit more luck with developing talents in their lines."

"In group C you called immediately: The RDC won't advance. Do you accept your defeat here?"

"I guess, I don't have a choice. In the end they were even on no. 1 and the only team with two victories in the group, while the 'clear favourites' struggled. At least I was correct with Kai Fa being slightly better than Ubesii, so 1/2 correct."

"Group D was the first group, where you really couldn't decide. You were sure a newcomer would advance, which happened actually with FiHami..."

"And I'm very glad that happened. I mentioned it ereyesterday already, they are the team acting the most like a team out of all squads in this tournament, you see how much fun they have and now they're even more successful officially than their female counterparts, who were already gaining so much popularity and were producing so much ecstasy last year, so I'm very happy them playing their hearts out was worth it."

"...Yes, and Hazelbrust advanced too, so 2/2 for you here. However Kosbareland is totally last and you even betted on them advancing. What happened there?"

"I don't know to be honest. Unlucky tactics? That's why I would say was the reason, why they didn't seem to have a chance. Or one expects just too much, since they were already world champion once, probably it was just a lucky punch back then. The statistics would say so too. 4 FWC participations, only once in the KO-round and immediately winning the tournament. Not a rare occurence in the FWC indeed, but also doesn't make you one of the top teams."

"The security measures around the stadiums from group E worked well, that's for sure, but were your prognostic measures working well too?"

"(laughs) Yes, I called the RIM to advance and they even did as first of the group. I was disappointed by Sedunn, but I already noticed when talking to my colleagues from abroad that most people are and the sports reporters in Sedunn itself are a little puzzled about the performances Sedunn has shown us. Still 2/2 correct, but with a bitter taste in my mouth."

"The 'indifferent group', so to say, had Tekarai and Valora advancing. What do you say about that?"

"That I was completely wrong with Huawan. The team's coach even apologised publically for their intermezzo in this competition. Tekarai is the advancing newcomer, I was hoping for, and Valora played....a little above average. We all know, that this has a positive effect on the currently difficult political situation down there and what I hope for, is, that the FWC might gain enough time for both sides to get into diplomatic talks with each other while watching the games of Valora together."

"In group G Ryccia played 'a really bad' world cup, didn't they?"

"Yeah, I don't know. Some players might also be from where the commotion in Valora takes place, maybe they were not feeling well enough psychologically, but....yeah, not much to say. Maybe next time, right? Snolland therefore advanced easily, there was just this shock in the last game against Tribekistan, which played a wonderful tournament, so...yeah."

"And last but not least: Group H...."

"I did say, this group would be the most exciting one, didn't I? Pax Dracon was not on anyone's list, sadly the IFF was stronger overall than Transsuneria. I've said everything earlier already."

"Alright, that's a wrap. Your opinion was mostly only halfway right,..."

"I think, that's enough (chuckles)."

"So, would you like to make a few guesses on the round of 16?"

"Hm....I don't think, I really can. We mostly have games, where a surprisingly good team plays against an alleged 'favourite' and you already saw, how wrong I was, so: Let us get surprised a little bit more here. After all, that's - if we're frank - even more fun than seeing all the normal teams playing their average good game."
