[DISCUSSION] Organisation of Treasure Island
#11

I'll close down the Lampshade Bar if I see any more "promote Market Street" posts. -_-

I honestly expected an actual discussion, instead of "me too" posts.

A zombie RP!

I am new to the TSP RP scene, so my comments may not hold the type of weight someone who's RP'd here longer than I does. But, a few suggestions I have are such:

1. Divide up the newspapers versus the actual RP's. In my experience, newspaper articles can spark conflicts but the actual RPing within them should be reserved for other threads. Same with the embassies.

2. With respect to embassies, the "storefront" should be OOC. Like, this is a brief description of the nation, here are our official stances, here's who we have relations with. Obtaining embassy relations should be IC. Otherwise, it's kind of pointless and turn less about RPing and more about pokemon (ie, gotta catch all the embassies).

3. I've read over SCO a little bit. From what I understand, it's a UN of sorts? A lot of good RP's can stem from various alliances and pacts forming; that is, military, defense, trade (especially trade), whatever. I recommend different alliances form. Good alliances often develop good rivalries, and good rivalries lead to tension. Alliance tension is better than nation-to-nation tension for several reasons (involving multiple people on multiple people, more complicated, prevents the whole several-people-on-one-guy thing).

4. I have noticed a wide spread of RP skills and abilities over here. That's completely fine, but I recommend some more 'collaborative' RP's that focus on character development to get people going on things and hone in on / increase their skills. War RP's are fine and all, but they can be tedious and dull over time if not mixed in with some non-mega diplomacy threads.

Some thoughts:

While I appreciate the idea of separating NS and non-NS RP's I suggest merging Bantam Harbour and Port Royal since, as previously stated, there is little activity in Port Royal. Maybe we could give it a new name that better reflects on its activities.

I believe Market Street has a lot of potential, but it has like many other projects, got stuck half way. Therefore I think it should be left there, at least as a reminder so that maybe it will be revived sometime.

I think it also would be a good idea to create additional subforums, especially for news papers, as more and more people decide to create individual threads (yes, there will be one for Sedunn as well Tounge). The embassies might also deserve a subforum.

About promoting. I too believe the SJ has a lot of potential in terms of promoting RP activities.

Having some common ideas of basic TSP IC history could add an extra dimension to the RP. (Like what year was that nation formed, has there been an ancient civilization like the Egyptian in TSP, what kind of relations had this and that nation during that century?)

I'll reply to both of the above comments tomorrow, but just a quick reply to Todd's impression of the SCO. It's not meant to be a UN. It's simply an alliance between democratic nations that Awe and I founded. Other nations are free (and actually encouraged) to create their own alliances. The reason it has a separate subforum is because of the amount of threads it ended up producing, and the concern that it would clutter the main Bantam forum.

I would actually be happy to see more institutionalisation and activity from the SSU, so it could maybe be a counterweight to the SCO.

Bantam Harbour needs an area of newspapers, Embassies and organisations.

The SSU will be pleased to try to do a bit more for it, but we are not you, and our attempts at creating something similar to your SCO would result in the DFMU.
