Scottish Independence |
(07-12-2014, 09:51 AM)Ditortilla Wrote: The issue is not just about Scotland You say that London is the same size of Sweden's or Iran's, but did you know that it's only the fourth largest economy in the UK. Aberdeen is a city in Scotland and it had the largest economy in the UK for years and it still has. Many ENGLISH MPs have said that if Scotland became independent she would keep the pound. The thing about the pound is just blackmail to try to keep us in the UK. Even if we can't keep the pound (which we can) we can make a Scottish pound. You say that we are being told a dream about Scottish independent? You do know that the NO campaign has said that if Scotland became independent that she would not be able to defended her self from attacks from outer space! The fact is how come the Prime Mistier, most English MPs and most political party leaders want Scotland to stay in the UK. It's because they know that if Scotland was to leave the UK economy would fall down. You can see how despite the Prime Mistier has become he now has asked the Russian President, the US President and ex-NATO leaders to help keep Scotland in the UK. This shows that Scotland can become independent. Europeian Ambassador to The South Pacific

I think it's wrong to only consider the economical effects. There is more to a country than making good money and so on. Affinity, culture, history and common future goals are what I really think define a country. But the economical aspects must of course be studied so that people are not being lied to, leaving false hopes.
It will be very interesting to see the the result. I'm sure the outcome (whatever it might be) will affect other regions in Europe striving for independence.
Maybe.

Don't know if it is a little bit off topic, but I started to wonder what the flag of the UK would look like if Scotland gained independence. Would it change?
Not necessarily. Just because the Scottish saltire was incorporated in the history of the flag, there is no requirement for greater England to remove it if we vote yes.
On the other had, the would-be designers are already crawling out of the woodwork. http://i100.independent.co.uk/article/th...lk_RdEaDNl

Yes the flag would have to change not because us Scots would want it changed but because there would be not union the name the Union Jack is called the Union Jack and it's a union of counties.

I've read that Scottish politicians (if independent) would like to adopt Scandinavian ways of politics and even apply for the Nordic Council. Is this a thing among the voters?
I doubt it though the SNP want to be a little like Norway there is a huge difference in their politics to Norwegian politics. It also dependences on what government the Scottish people vote for. I haven't heard about joining the Nordic Council if we did apply I am sure we would get in as Scotland means a lot to Scandinavia's defence, it's one of the best places in the world to help defend allies and stop invaders. So NATO would want us as an ally and so does Russia, before the Ukraine crises David Cameron ask Vladimir Putin to help keep the UK together and he said it had nothing to do with Russia but he did hint he might want to be allied with Scotland.
